GM Meetings: Proposed Rule Changes

All quotes from Pierre LeBrun Twitter
	Quote:

One item that gained significant traction in GM Meetings today is if a skater loses his helmet, he must come off the ice immediately. Similar to what AHL and other leagues have already instituted.
	Quote:

The league also hopes to get to a point where helmets are mandatory in pre game warmup. Which is long overdue. But that would also need to go through proper channels to become a rule. Meaning NHLPA consent.
	Quote:

Another rule recommention from the GMs: teams going on the power play will choose which side they want the faceoff to be. Only on first faceoff to begin the power play. Obvious advantage for power play team. The AHL already does this.
	Quote:

GMs discussed the merits of one-minute penalty in OT instead of traditional two minutes. But not enough support. So no change there. One concern was maybe fewer OTs would be decided and result in more shootouts which GMs don’t want
	Quote:

GMs also endorsed the idea of having clocks in the corner boards in all 31 rinks. Which we saw in the outdoor games. Will require Board of Governors approval
There were a few other things discussed, like suspended players not counting towards the cap and removing the O from ROW as a tiebreaker, but I don’t think anything else had enough support.

I don't want suspended (I'm assuming this would include team based suspensions and not just league) players not counting towards the cap as that just makes another loophole for teams up against the cap with bad contracts to pull funny business.

What, like the coach telling a player to go out and punch a referee? That seems pretty unlikely.

Is there any video of the clocks in use at the outdoor games? I checked the highlights for both games this season and didn't see any clocks.

They need to make a rule or address players like Sean Monahan who angle their visors so high it's essentially offering zero protection. It was pointed out to me recently and every time I see him on the ice I cringe. I'd imagine there is a rule in place (proper use of equipment) and this just need to be enforced.

Darn I was hoping that they would extend OT and get rid of the shootout.
The one minute penalty in OT seems like an interesting idea.

I think this is a Photoshop but it looks exactly like the ones I saw on SportsCenter when they showed them. Or maybe it’s real? Does this exist at ACC?

A hockey player should not have to leave the ice if his helmet comes off.

The helmet rule is likely dictated by insurance concerns.

Really? That small? It seems like you'd still be better off just looking at the scoreboard than trying to find that thing when going full speed.

Now that I know what to look for, you can see it in this replay...

When they cut to the behind-the-net camera, you can see it above the All Star Game ad between the Rold Gold and Honda ads.

It looks like they only put it in the corner opposite the camera angle.

And players that chew on their mouth guards during play.

That is a rule. It came into effect in 2017.

Komorov was penalized for it at least once.

Fix the f-ing point system, no more loser points. Have a 3-2-1 system where every game is rewarding the same amount of points.

Why?
You don't think players should be protected from serious injuries for a game? Seems like a pretty logical one to me. If you don't want it to happen to you, then do up your helmet tighter.

I'd like to see players in the penalty box at the end of OT being prevented from participating in the shootout. Stops cheap shots in the dying seconds of OT, knowing there is no consequence.

Is there currently any rule that prevents a player from unsnapping another players chin strap? Because if not, I could see a scenario where a player (Marchand maybe? lol) tries taking another players helmet off to get them off the ice during a critical moment.
