Getting closer to hockey season!

Looks like we'll have ads in ice on the corners

Wish they stuck with a normal oval. This weird boomerang thing is going to make the game weird.

The advertisment whoring is a real pet peeves of mine. Advertising on the boards, on the jumbotron, and on the ice. Advertising (dressed up as a game) is the stoppage time entertainment to fill the time of showing ads on TV. Every PP and PK is an advertisement opportunity. Every goal and assist is an advertising opportunity. Advertising in the concourse. Advertising on the ticket. Advertising advertising anywhere.

The Flames have advertising that precedes many of their Facebook and Twitter posts now.

Who wants to do some math and guess what an average ticket would cost if there were no advertising?

I contend we have absolutely nothing to complain about until they start putting ads on jerseys.

There's only a limited correlation there. You could remove all advertising revenue entirely and not change ticket prices at all. What it would then alter is how much money owners and players get.

It's a pity you left out the blatant whoring 'Pete the Plumber' does via urinal cakes placement as well...."nobody beats Peat the Plumber.....nobody!"

Nope, doesn't work that way. The Flames 100% maximize revenue with their ticket pricing.

They strike what they believe to be the perfect balance of selling seats for the highest possible price with some empty seats (17000 sold at X dollars beats 19000 sold at less dollars). If advertising disappeared in a hypothetical scenario they wouldn't be able to tap into extra revenue that pisses off the fans, as that's what they're doing now, as far as the market will possibly bare.

They would at that point only start hurting their own bottom line while fans started to just watch from home.

...and the ads on jerseys is coming. It worked in the NBA, as the threatened fan backlash was exactly as many predicted - A bit of whining at the beginning and then completely forgetting it even happened.

The NHL was waiting on the NBA experience and it was a huge success, so despite what anyone in the NHL has said about jersey ads, they will now do it. I'm willing to bet next season.

I'm probably weird this way, but I find it the opposite. I find places devoid of ads look like an arena from some oppressed communist dictatorship country. Like the pictures i see of North Korea's subway system or their downtown. It just looks eerily Soviet to me.

Edit: Just to be clear, I'm not saying I like Spengler cup levels of ads where the whole jersey is covered and players are basically a skating advertisement. But I like the level of ads we currently see in the NHL.
