Icon48 McIlrath & Paajarvi on waivers UPD: both clear

Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
McIlrath (NYR) & Paajarvi (STL) on waivers

McIlrath is interesting as he is a type of defenceman that the Flames don't have in their system (that is close to NHL ready). Rangers were reportedly trying hard to trade him before being forced to waive him.

Larry Brooks @NYP_Brooksie
Even with Jooris eligible for IR, Rangers weren't going to keep 8 defensemen...hence, McIlrath on waivers...probably 50/50 on claim.

Send Grossman or Kulak down and pick him up?

Is McIlrath someone you want to use a roster spot all year for though?

Let's revive Paajarvi from the dead so he could haunt the Oilers.

Why would you want McIlrath? Terrible defenseman

What does signing Grossman to league minimum have to do with it? They can send Grossman down also if they want.

McIlrath would be a good pick up if he made it to the flames waiver position. We don't really have a young D-man prospect that can hit on the cusp of making it.

Big and can clear a crease. We don't have any in our system that are even close to making the NHL. I do believe we are going to need a someone to take Engellands place next year. By no means is he ever going to be a top4 but if the flames think he can be a young , cheap #6-7 in the next year they should consider it.

Sounds like a guy we already have in Nik Grossman. Except Grossman is cheaper and has been an NHL mainstay player for a decade.

Given how much Grossman is hated around here, people sure are quick to jump at grabbing a younger, worse, more expensive version of exactly him

Big, right hand shot, young, tough, Canadian boy. I'd take a shot on McIlrath.

Oilers will have last claim, don't see him getting past many teams at the bottom. I'd love him in a Flames jersey, another guy to beat the piss out of Lucic.

But like you said he is young. At 24 i would think he still has sometime to improve. For me picking him up would not be for this year but for years to come. So if he improved couldn't he also become an "NHL mainstay" player? Honestly i don't really care because i have to think the flames could make a trade for a cheap physical d-man for next year. This guy is free however.

I believe current standings don't kick in until November 1st.

Hmmm, good to know. So how is it decided then? Rock paper scissors?

Meh to both.

It's sad and telling that Pajaarvi's best season was his rookie season. No progression or development at all.
