Default Tyler Wotherspoon has been reassigned to the Stockton

He looked good in his limited games this year.

I believe they had to with the acquisition of Jpak.

Seemed like a serviceable bottom pairing defensemen. Very steady play and was more noticeable offensively than in his last call-up.

Damn... I get that they didn't want to use a call up, but I was enjoying watching him play.

I thought he performed well. I hope he gets a fair shot next fall.

Being the emergency replacement for Smid means he had to go down or use one of the remaining 3 post-deadline callups. Tough break, but at least he made a good go of it while he was up.

Good callup and this means that both him and Kulak would have to be in the frame if there are any injuries.

There is a lot of good depth in the system, and if even just one of them turns into a bona fide top 4 D to play with Hamilton, then the Flames will have a good defence corps, 2 hit that level and then this defence corps will be set for a long time.

I think he is back in the teams good graces now. He had a solid call up with no goals against until the final game.

Hopefully he uses this to work hard in the offseason and progress some more next year.

I'm going to bet he's traded in the off season unless the Flames can manage to trade one of Smid, Engelland or Wideman.

He was in Calgary on an Emergency Recall, which you can only do if you have less than 6 healthy defencemen (or 12 forwards, or 2 goalies) available on your active roster. Because the Flames got a defenceman in return for Russell, they now have 6 healthy d-men (with Jokipakka's arrival in Boston).

They either had to convert Wotherspoon's recall to a regular recall, which would have burned one of their 4 post-deadline recalls, or they had to send him down.

The same thing will happen with Ortio (who is on an emergency recall for Ramo) whenever Backstrom meets the team. In that situation, Ortio will likely be converted to a regular recall.

Based on how Wotherspoon played i would assume there is a future here for him next season. He did really well in his call up.
He is a better fit and caphit than Smid for sure.

I assume the message was very positive from Brad and Bob in his exit meeting. He came in and did everything expected of him.

I think it's safe to say he will wear the C again

Small sample size, but he played really well.

That is a good illustration of how sometimes you can't tell from their play in the minors - you have to actually put guys out on the ice to see where their game is and whether they are ready.

He looks ready to me.

Will be interesting to see where he ends up on this summer's prospect ranking.

I think he's put himself as a favourite to a win a #5-7 role next year. Wouldn't surprise me if he could pair with Hamilton at some point down the line if we continue to struggle to find a partner for him. Very successful call up for Wotherspoon, his game has really matured.

He seems to fit in playing with Nakladal. Both of them played well together. Now we have to see JJ plays.

They gotta buy out Wideman this summer.

And I'm referring to new Finnish D-man as "Kevin" from hereon. No last name, no attempts to spell that monstrosity.

Not the last we've seen of him. He's gonna because he has to be, not because anyone wanted him to be. Hopefully we move Wideman or smid in the offseason
