The Canucks may be best off playing him with the Sedins from day 1 to justify not having to risk him on waivers to send him to Utica.

Eh, lots of signings or trades get a {SIGNING} or {TRADE} thread.

I think they ought to play Vrbata with them, hope he produces as well as last year, and then when they're in 13th in the conference at the trade deadline, get a first for him. But the team is basically the current NHL version of the Milbury Islanders at this stage so who knows what they do.

I don't know if you meant this sarcastically, but I think Sven might actually do better if he was thrust into a top 6 situation.

1.3M is my guess. Sven had the leverage in this negotiation.

I hope they are forced to put Sven on waivers so the flames can claim him, only to throw him back on waivers. Because? It would be funny.

Can't put a player on waivers after claiming him on waivers.

Yes you can, the only condition is that the team you claimed them from (VAN in this case) would get first dibs.

Sure you can. That's how the Flames got Schlemko (Dallas claimed him off waivers from Arizona; the Flames claimed him off waivers from Dallas).

He was tried at RW in the minors and didn't do well. I doubt anything has changed.

Most likely the signing was made to justify giving Calgary a 2nd rounder for free.

Anyone who picks Baertschi off of waivers would be forced to play him in the NHL. I bet he would clear, if the Canucks went that route.
