Flames Bennet vs McDavid

Just wondering with both of these guys being able to contend for the Calder next season which one do you think would win??

Bennett is a little older and I believe the experience both from an NHL coaching level as well as playing big games and being around the team will be very helpful. Keep in mind he spent the majority of the year with the Flames in meetings, working with trainers and learning how to be a Pro.

His season last year with Kingston produced very similar points with McDavid and his pace this year in the games he played was also a close 2nd to McDavid.

The one factor I believe might be a weight down on Bennett would be his playing time next season. At this stage I don't know where he fits in terms of wing or center and on what line.

I suspect McDavid will be #1 or 2 with plenty of minutes for the bottom facing Oilers .

I truly believe that Bennett will make it a closer race than a lot of people believe.

We all know McDavid will be given 25 minutes and #1 PP duties right out of the gate.

McDavid should be a 65+ point player next year for the Oilers. He is a great young player. I am expecting Bennett to be in the 45-60 range.

Honestly, I could see McDavid put up a point a game in his first season. Bennett will likely have a fine year, but he's going to have to have a spectacular season to keep up.

This. McDavid will be given top minutes first chance he's out there. If Bennett can grab the reigns ala Johnny and mass produce, he might win it. These 2 guys will be compared against each other for the rest of their careers. McDavid might be the ultimate talent out of the gate, but Bennett has been a part of a team that made it to round 2 of the playoffs. They are also good friends off the ice. It will be exciting to watch them compete against each other for the next 15 years.

An Oiler has never won the Calder. No reason to start now.

I'm not even giving it thought for next year. I hope Johnny wins it this year, but I'm sure not hung up on it. Johnny winning the Calder or losing it doesn't take away his accomplishments this year, which is the important thing.

I'm hoping for a solid season for Bennett next year, and another playoff run for the Flames. If he has a solid season and wins the Calder, great. If he has a solid season and McJesus wins, also good.

However, it would be a slightly sweeter Calder if Bennett beat out McJesus though

Most people will be comparing Jack Eichel to Connor McDavid for years to come...and Eichel will certainly enter the mix for the Calder if he doesn't go back to college. There's no talent in Buffalo so he'll be getting a ton of minutes if he's in the NHL next season. Nugent-Hopkins will likely get 1C minutes during McDavid's first year so I'd be surprised if McDavid was able to put up more than 60 points. Very few players hit the 1 PPG mark nowadays.

I think Bennett is the 2nd line C before next season get too old... I'm not saying he's gonna win the Calder, but I think he'll be getting a lot of ice-time.

Backlund drops to 3rd line C... Stajan 4th line C... when all are healthy.

I won't pretend to know much about McDavid other than the hype, but it should be a great rookie class next year

McDavid is better than Bennett/Monahan in the same way that Crosby is better than Toews. But Toews has won more than Crosby, and I would rather be a Blackhawks fan than a Penguin fan.

But comparing Bennett to McDavid will probably end in vain.

Can we at least spell Bennett right in the title of the thread?

yeah I wouldn't be comparing the two. McDavid is definitely the front runner for the Calder. That being said, so was drouin at the start of last season. That is why they play the game.

So many things can happen in the next year to complicate matters, but all things being equal, I fully expect McDavid to be highly productive in his first season with the Oilers and to inevitably win the Calder Trophy.
