Default Engagement rings, boxes and bands...?

Hey everyone,

Well I just took the plunge and bought an engagement ring for my GF.... Honestly didn't know if I would ever feel ready to settle down but I can honestly say 110% that this is what I want and couldn't be happier :-)

That being said I went out and picked a ring I know she will love. Now the tricky part, finding a ring box that doesn't feel like I'm carrying a concealed weapon around... haha

It came with a ring box but it feels too big and bulky so I set out to find something slimmer/more discreet and I'm having trouble finding something so I thought I would ask others to see what they did.

I've tracked down a modern design by Andrew Zo called "The Clifton" which is a wallet style box. I really like it but it's always sold out and I can't really see myself presenting the ring with it as it opens like a book. It would be a great way to carry around the ring though as it's very stealth. http://clifton.andrewzo.com/product/clifton/

I've looked on etsy and there are some cool designs but a lot of them will likely not make it in time for the proposal(sometime between March 15-April 15) and can get quite pricey.

What did you guys do to hide the ring when carrying it around or for the proposal? Did anyone find a unique way of doing it?

I'm also going to have to find a band to match the ring as this one doesn't have a matching band, just wondering if anyone knows anyone that does custom jewelry that might be able to help out in that department? Might as well get on that now while I'm at it.

Here's a pic of the ring for reference...

Thanks

Jason

congrats!

But seriously, it's a damn ring box. You will be using it for 30 seconds and then never think about it again.

Use the box it came in.

The problem is that the regular boxes are big and bulky. I don't know if you've ever tried to conceal a ring box on you before but it's not that easy, especially if you were on a date. I'm talking about something smaller, more compact.

I was just doing some searching and came across www.themrsbox.com These are nice and small but not sure how I feel about them and being that they're $75-100 for a box seems a little crazy

You could try putting the ring in your pocket, then use your hand to present it to her.

I've thought of that as well but I'm also afraid of losing it haha

It's def something I will consider if I can't find a box or something that works

I put it in a sandwich ziploc bag. I have no idea if this made it safer or less likely to be lost...

Use some type of classy looking drawstring fabric pouch. Wear something that has a closable internal pocket to put it in. That's what I did since we were going to be walking around Chicago all day before I proposed.

Paper envelope might feel more secure than have it floating around in your pocket.

Take a safety pin and attach it to the inside of your pocket if you're afraid of losing the ring.

Spending extra money on a ring box seems like total crazy talk to me. Do you have really have cash to burn after buying that gorgeous piece of jewelry!?

YOu should spend another $2000-3000 on the box alone. Your GF will judge you immensely on the type of box you use.

I know a lot of people don't see the point in buying another box that will be used for such a short time but to be honest, I just spent a lot of money on a ring so what's another $100 to showcase it in something special when I give it to her?

EDIT: Took out the cost of the ring as to not look like a "show off", you guys are ridiculous

Geez, now I understand why you had to put up a picture of the ring and tell everyone how much it cost.

I don't think anyone believes this thread is actually about a ring box.

1) Buy a mini moleskine notebook (about wallet size).

2) Watch this and implement:

3) Say you wrote something for your soon to be fiance to read in a notebook.

4) Ignore this message because the thread was all about showing off the ring

I don't know what this is called, but I love this idea:
(might be similar to what is posted in the OP?)

And congrats on popping the question!

The designer of the ring I bought my wife was clever enough to design a box that was slimmer than your typical ring box.

You can try asking a jewelry store if they have slimmer ring boxes. It might help if you actually buy your wedding band from there.

buy a box of jimmies - tear open one only and slip the ring inside, use some scotch tape to seal the package and put it in your wallet and then let the good times roll

Or maybe I put a pic of the ring because I asked if anyone knew any custom jewelers that might be able to help make a band for it...

I couldn't care less about "showing off" so find another thread to troll.

Yeah that's actually the ring box that I mentioned in my original post and was going to pick it up but it's been sold out for well over a month.

Have you decided on how/where you're going to pop the question?

I like the idea of using the box when you make the presentation, so using a ziplock bag or anything like that wasn't really an option for me. I got engaged in Hawaii so this was difficult with limited layers of clothing and just shorts and t shirts on most of the time.

Ended up arranging a fancy dinner where we had to dress up, so I'd have an excuse to wear a blazer and conceal it in the inside pocket. I don't think I had a jacket of any sort on the rest of the trip, so had to plan the event around the box a bit.
