Default I resigned yesterday...

After 4 months of not only doing my Assistant job, but the GM and F&B jobs with out any compensation and working 60+ hours a week for 26k a year they and the balls to write me up for not answering my phone on my day off. I said F this and resigned yesterday.

I had two weeks paid vacation that I was denied taking over and over and was used for months without anything. Sadly I don't have another job lined up yet but I mentally and physically couldn't take it anymore. I couldn't do my physical therapy on my neck because of this either!

Thankfully in Alabama you can quit your job and get unemployment if you're doing jobs not in your job title without compensation.

When I quit yesterday they brought me in to do the "write up" and I laughed at them "you mean that I am getting written up because I was off and didn't answer my phone?"

this is going to be fun going to court of this one, the GM at the property next to us went through this about a year ago and the RDO was blasted in court by the judge for being a bully and the company should be ashamed of what they did.... I'm sure they're not really wanting to go to court over this.

Man I slept so good last night without the stress anymore. no more $4/hr job!

Sounds like a good move. I bet your stress levels go down dramatically now that you don't have to deal with that anymore

You never realize how much stress a terrible job causes you until you finally quit. It's an extremely liberating feeling to finally be rid of it

"A weight being lifted off your shoulders," it feels very literal in this situation.

Good for you. I hope it works out and you find something you really like.

60+ Hours for 26k?

And here I am getting bothered by whenever I can't cut out a couple hours early.

Good for you! A job is required to live usually, but it should always add to your life, not subtract.

$4/hour.

I cant even imagine that. The homeless around here make more than that.

Sounds like a garbage job, good move. 26k a year is a joke, I made more than that standing around a video game store when I was 19.

If you are willing, there are lots of jobs in Alberta.

Takes a few hoops to jump through, but a pile of jobs up here.

Good job man.

Working that hard for garbage pay just isn't worth it, especially if you were that under appreciated. I have been there and done that, and it sucked.

On the flip side, when you hit the point in your life, and I am sure you will, where you feel you are being compensated more than fairly, you will be more than willing to pick up that phone on a Saturday, because you will probably enjoy what you do, and be eager to please.

I had a job like that. I bet they realize how much you were worth in about a week or two and the place is upside down for a month. Especially if you were crucial in any stage of operations.

What was their reaction? Were they shocked?

Someone else mentioned it, but you should think about coming to Alberta. You can make 2-3 times that much here for less work than what you've described. Might be a few hoops, but definitely not impossible.

IIRC PIMking has a pretty nice setup where he is. He's got a nice place. His wages aren't so good but his expenses are pretty low as well.

Yeah, I started beating the "come to Calgary" drum the last time he said he was managing a hotel for $12/hr as I was blown away.

But once he started going through his personal life where he lives, I understood. Basically he's got a huge house on an acreage, an absolutely gorgeous property (post pics again if you feel like it PIMKing) and pays next to nothing.

Basically it boiled down to his cost of living being very minimal down there, due to the area itself and his own personal situation vs coming to Calgary and starting fresh with tiny starter homes on almost no land coming in around the $400k mark.
