Default Long Time Calgary Activist Running for Mayor

Well, it is semi-official.

The nice older gentleman who most recently likes to stand on 2nd street and 6th ave and call all of us Nazis is running for Mayor. He and his disciple are in full campeign mode. Yesterday he was all dressed in a suit and tie handing out literature. Not to mention wearing the aprons with "Malin for Mayor" on them.

On a side note... I wonder what made him give up his beef with Shell.... He had been protesting against them for years.

I walk by this guy all the time on my way to the train. I've never actually stopped to see what he's advocating as it seems when you make eye contact with those people they really try to suck you into a conversation. What was his issue with Shell and what's his issue now?

Oh, it is one of the crazies themselves running for mayor...cookoo.

So he spends years berating us and now he wants our votes? I think he's doing it wrong.

Last time I walked by him and declined his offer for a brochure, he followed me down the sidewalk shouting that I wasnt smart enough to understand it anyway. Full bore crazy

I'd love to see those debates. Find a way to get Rutherford in there and its the most must-see TV Canadian politics has ever had.

I'd suggest that yelling at passerbys that they are Nazis and bad Canadians while wearing a poorly constructed and grammatically incorrect sandwich board to be the tipping point for "too much time on his hands".

Ya I made the "mistake" one day of texting on my phone as I walked past him rather than take his brochure and now everytime I walk by him (everyday) he remembers me and calls me a "coward liberal Nazi". I'm not kidding....everytime. I must have really offended him.

I tried reading his billboard one day, I believe it had something to do with equating Canadians who ignore the abuses in mental hospitals to Nazi's? I think that's what he was trying to get at anyways.

Is his sidekick with the shorts and high socks going to be his campaign manager?

Well if we're basically going to have a whole campaign thread dedicated to Nenshi and his staff, then its right and fair to have a place holder one in case another candidate wants to come on here and talk about his views.

Plus if he does come here it could be funny.

There's an "ask me anything thread" that has to do with the Mayor and City issues (explicitly not campaign at all). And there's a general 2013 election thread open to any and all discussion (which needs more discussion activity about all the candidates and races - like this dude).

Screw it, these guys are awesome enough to deserve their own thread, they have a history that goes way past this election.

Am I correct that these are the same guys we know and love from the "A-Channel: Stop the Killings!" campaign of the early '00s?

I took their pamphlet one day during that era as the guy explained to me that Edmonton A-Channel had already stopped the killings. The pamphlet was a bunch of photocopied newspaper articles that had nothing to do with A-Channel or killings.

I hope the guy has access to medical care and this is just his hobby, because it'd actually be pretty sad if he was left on his own in the state he's in.

Woah this is the A-Channel guy?

If so I respectfully withdraw my "is this thread necessary" post.

Well, if he's against liberals and against nazis, he must be a centrist, right?

If someone called me a liberal, everyday when I passed them, I would punch them in the face.

Adding on "Nazi" hurts too...but I ain't no liberal.
