Olympic Wrestling Removed from 2020 Games
http://www.cbc.ca/sports/story/2013/...wrestling.html
Of course you want to vote out a sport that was basically included from when the Olympics involved greek guys in flowing robes.
I think it's the IOC that's on drugs. How does wresting get eliminated while crap judging and rigged sports like boxing and taekwondo stay?

And modern pentathalon stays. I wonder how that happened, couldn't possibly be due to it being a sport almost exclusively reserved for insanely wealthy Europeans.
The IOC is almost as much of a joke as FIFA, and much like FIFA they don't care if everyone knows they're corrupt.

Yet modern pentathlon is kept?
Yeah, I'm sure there is a lot of participation in a sport that includes, "fencing, horse riding, swimming, running and shooting".
Edit: that's what I get for pausing to work before submitting.

This is just so stupid. It proves the IOC only cares about money. Golf is an olympic sport, great, millionaires get medal shots. Did the ancient greeks play golf or ping pong? What a joke.

Wow. Wow Wow Wow.
On what possible grounds do they remove Wrestling? I don't even like the sport, but it's 100% a real, olympic worthy sport. Much more then what could be said for a lot of pointless events:
- All the horse crap. Dressage? DRESSAGE. ARE YOU KIDDING ME. Why not include "Superdogs"?
- Do we need 100 swimming events?
- Modern Pentathelon. I'm suprised they don't include scotch sipping.
- Golf, Archery and Shooting are debatable but wrestling is more of a sport then all 3 of them.
Wow.

I think its really stupid to remove a founding sport in exchange for some of the crap that stays.
I'm not a big fan of it and Grecco Roman looks like two guys having sex, but to take out a originating sport and keep in ridiculous sports like synchronized swimming or diving or any judged sport is going full ######.

Agree with everbody, this is a really stupid decision. Synchro anything and pentathalon are sports I wouldn't even watch when Canada is winning. (OK a medal is a medal so maybe I'd still watch the highlights and then go check where Canada is in the medal standings).
On the plus side glad to see rugby and golf in. They should ditch all the synchro crap and pentathalon and bring back baseball, wrestling and add cricket.

Baseball was taken out largely because of the need to build a specific venue for a single sport, it isn't coming back and the same issue kills any chance of cricket getting in.

Maybe they'll replace it with professional wrestling. I can't wait for a Canadian to DDT a North Korean.
Plus they will get to wear all those cool masks.

I really don't get this move either. Wrestling is a foundation sport of the games, and it's easily accomodated stadium wise with the other venues that are required.

I don't get dropping wrestling either. Especially since the popularity of UFC has made it desirable for better athletes to go into it. If it wasn't for the Chinese and their billion people would anyone give a damn about ping pong?

But you couldn't call a foreign object a foreign object. And as we know those dirty Russian Nazi's would completely dominate things.
And who would the guys from parts unknown wrestle for.

^ the "foreign object" issue could be dealt with by using the old WCW policy of calling it an international object. And I think that Parts Unknown would just be dealt with by having them compete under the Olympic flag, or some kind of Republic of China/Taiwan special-flag deal. I'm more concerned about how specialty matches are treated: will every Russian wrestler's opponent be versed in the Russian chain match? Would tag team matches be contested using the Freebird rule?

And would Vince Mcmahon be the medal presenter, go to give the gold to the winner then laugh in his face and hit him with a stunner and give the medal to his corporate champion.
Then turn to the camera and yell "It was me Jacque Rogge, it was me all along, I am the higher power"
Would that mean that the Godfather and his hos would be the musical act during the closing ceremonies.

There won't be any medals - just really gaudy belts with the five rings on 'em. And Triple H will be winning the gold one for about six Olympiads because "nobody else deserves the push". He'll job out the competitors from the threat nations in the early rounds.
I figure that 3MB could be the musical entertainment (along with Double J), while the dance segment would belong to the reunited 3-Count.

Well it's under "Athletics", it's up to the IAAF to determine that sports are competed. For example the Triathlon is under Athletics and was added in 2004 without having to remove a sport. Same as in Cycling as more races like the Omnium were added as well.
