Default Soldier + M16 walking around MRU?

Uh so I was just walking by MRU and I saw a guy walking alone, in full Canadian army gear including a helmet, fully loaded backpack and he was carrying an M16.

My first thought was "WTF" quickly followed by "If he turns and aims at me I'm dead".

Comments? Explanations?

That can't be legal.... He literally looked like he was ready to be dropped into Afgahnastan.

It sounds bizarre that he would be alone and carrying an M-16?

Talk to campus security.

And as far as I know, Canadian soldiers are not issued M16s.

I see them all the time along the Bow pathway from Mewata. They seem to be getting exercise in full gear.

It's probably not an M16 either - don't Canadian soldiers carry C7s?

You should follow him around and take some photos.

Be sure to point your camera at him menacingly.

They aren't. Standard issue is the C7. Go talk to campus security.

Yup. In full army getup.
He wan't actually on campus, I saw him walking on the sidewalk by the chapel. He was heading in the direction of the currie barracks. Others saw him too so I'm not just crazy.

This was 2 hours ago. I kind of brushed it off but I probably should have said something to security now that you guys mentioned it.

PS. Sorry Im not well versed in guns. Black machine gun.

Wow over react much?

Were you on the campus or "by" the campus. The old base is across the street from MRU, there are still military on that base, I reckon it was a "test" walk.

Why would it be illegal?

First take a deep breath dude......really deep.

It's a training walk, we used to do them as fitness tests.

Calm down man.

Not everyone would react calmly when seeing someone walking around with a gun, especially around a campus, regardless of what they were wearing. Dude said it was a couple of hours ago anyways and that he brushed it off, it's not like he's freaking out about it. I'd never heard about a 'training walk' before it was mentioned here and I'd be pretty suprised to see something like that too. The condescending attitude is pretty annoying.

Lol I dont think "Probably should say something to campus security" is the immense over reaction you make it out to be undercoverbrother. Guy concerned about a lone man with a machine gun.

Working near MRU, I've seen this a few times lately. It definitely seems like training exercises.

I would assume he has been past MRU before, if so, he would have noticed the old base, which still houses some military buildings, which are active.

When the base was open is was very very regular to see soldiers, singular and in groups training for carrying heavy loads.

PS: guns are pulled behind trucks.
