... wow. So do they plan to waive and lose Karlsson? IMO we'll now have
Kiprusoff and Irving in Calgary
Taylor and Brust in Abbotsford
Ramo and Ortio in Europe
Karlsson gone
can't see it any other way tbh.

Quite the log jam of goalies there. I'd say you are right, Karlsson is likely the odd one out.

So I guess Ortio is indeed staying in Finland.
Heat should be pretty solid in net with a Taylor/Brust combo, IMO.

definitely. A lot of experience and both have worked quite successfully with Ward. Should be solid.
I am really surprised they signed Taylor, especially after they signed Brust. Don't get me wrong, I think Taylor definitely deserves the contract after last season - but it's a numbers game and now one goalie has to go. I wonder what happens if Karlsson goes through waivers ... does he go back to Europe?

If Karlsson does go to Europe, it would leave the Flames with only 2 goalies in North America with NhL contracts
Not a big deal I suppose. If they need a goalie due to injury they may sign a Veteran free agent

Watch.... Karlsson gets moved to Detroit, with Bouw, and he'll backstop Howard like an effin' boss.

The Red Wings already have the Monster. Don't know why they'd need another big swede for a back-up.

I think Karlsson has 875 thousand reasons to report to Abbotsford if demoted.
Do mediocre goalies make that much money in Europe?

Looks like Pierre got his wish, he is going to be seeing a great team in Abbotsford this coming season.

Gustavsson and Karlsson would be the largest backup tandem in the league that wouldn't any minutes because of Howard.

Is he a mediocre goalie in Europe though? Thought he was one of the better goalies in his league before he came over. I have a feeling if it is Abbotsford or Europe he'll probably end up leaving and heading back home.

Or is there any truth to Eklund's Kiprusoff rumours?

We have a glut of goaltenders. Something has to give.
What was the point in acquiring Ramo? I'm starting to think it was just an extra contract to take in order to get Squid.

Ramo is by far the best of any of our goaltenders right now besides Kipper.
I imagine if Kipper is done after this season, Ramo will be the immediate replacement.

Definitely a log jam of goalies now. One would have to suspect Karlsson is gone.
But i see an issue. Lets say Calgary starts the year with Kipper and Irving, and they get rid of Karlsson. They have 2 goalies signed to AHL deals, a goalie under NHL contract in europe, and a goalie they own the rights too in europe. What happens if Kipper or Irving get hurt? Do they call up Brossoit on an emergency basis? That only helps for 9 games. At some point they will be forced to use a contract space on a NHL/AHL tweener goalie.
While they have a log jam of goalies they definitely don't have a lot of goaltending depth for next season.

Karlsson can be loaned to another AHL or even an ECHL.
I think if the Flames agree, they could loan him to a European team as well (like what Buffalo did with Kotalik). If I re-call correctly, Kotalik was still on the Buffalo reserve list even though he played in Europe.

Ramo doesn't have an NHL contract, so it wasn't that.

As getbak said it can't be that as he doesn't have a contract.
My guess is it's insurance in case Kipper retires after this season or Irving doesn't pan out. You can never have too many options in net. Best case Calgary has 3 NHL goalies going into the season and can move one for assets.

We have to have 3 goalies signed to NHL contracts. I'm not sure if they have to be playing in NA or not but just good planning would say we need a 3rd goalie handy.
