2012 Fantasy Football Thread
The annual thread so that we keep our clutter out of the main NFL threads. Just held our annual live draft on the August long weekend. A little early, but one of the guys is moving to Qatar for a year so it had to be done. Pretty happy with what I drafted (11 team league). We run a PPR league with a QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, WR/RB, TE, DEF, K format.
QB - Rivers, Locker
RB - Mathews, McFadden, Redman, D. Brown
WR - Marshall, Maclin, A. Brown, Boldin, J. Baldwin, Cobb
TE - Gates
K - Carpenter
DEF - Philadelphia, Arizona

Well McFadden will make or break you there I think.
Draft for one of my leagues is now about 3 weeks out, the other one is 4.
In our one league they are allowing us to keep 2 players from our team last year, but we forfeit our first and second round picks to do so. I'm going to keep Arian Foster and Ryan Matthews as Foster is pretty much #1 on most draft lists, and Matthews seems to go between 3-11 so I think it's worth losing my picks to keep those two players. But they've changed it to be a 2 QB format in a 12 team league which I absolutely hate. There isn't enough QB's to cover the 3 spots you'll need to get past bye weeks. Worse....other GM's are hoarding QB's as their two keepers. There are 3 other teams out of 12 keeping two players at that position....in a league where passing TD's are 4 points. So I'll probably reach really early to grab me Teebus Christ in hopes that the Jets use him as a goal line running back, and take my chances with him as my second QB. For my first pick, I'm hoping to land one of Brady or Cam Newton as both guys will be in the draft. I'll probably have to draft QB's out of position given that I didn't keep any, but I should be better set at RB than anyone else to do so.
Just started putting my own rankings together here in the past couple days, so I'm definitely getting into fantasy mode. Even got me 6 more months of Sirius just so I can listen to the NFL channel non stop.

In a 12 person league I agree. With 10 it's awesome.

QB: Stafford, E. Manning
RB: Forte, Peterson, Gerhart, Brown
WR: Marshall, Maclin, Stevie Johnson, Little, Wayne
TE: Hernandez, Fleener
K: Bryant
Def: Cowboys
10 team league with QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, TE, WR/RB, K, D. Picked up Manning 70th overall because I like to have 2 good QBs in case one is really cold/hot. Also going with a K/Def by commitee and picking up whoever has the best match up on a week by week basis

Yeah, in a one QB format, unless I get Aaron Rogers, Tom Brady, or Drew Brees...I'll try to get two guys and play matchups. Although with Stafford, I don't know if matchups will be a huge problem...it would be health insurance that Manning gives you.
I also like to play matchups with defences too. Without knowing the Cowboys early schedule off hand...I don't know if I'm a fan. I think thats a Division where the other teams could all have pretty good offences, and I think the other three teams all have better defences than the Cowboys do.

My keepers this year are Megatron (will cost me my 2nd round pick) and Jordy Nelson (will cost me my 11th round pick).
I have the 4th overall pick, wondering what I should do. I'll either be taking a QB or RB. League is QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, WR/RB, TE, K, D.
Depending on Keepers Rodgers might be gone, do you think Brees is worth a 1st rounder or should I go RB?

Looking for some feedback on a couple potential keepers.
I'm in a 12 team league with QB, RB, RB, RB/WR/TE, WR, WR, TE, D/ST, K and it's PPR format.
My 4th round keeper is Mike Wallace. Any Steelers fans know his holdout status? He's projected to still go in the top 20.
I'm torn whether or not to use a 2nd keeper (we can keep 0, 1, or 2). I have Pierre Garcon available to keep in the 7th round, or Brandon Pettigrew available in the 8th round. Garcon could be RG3's new toy and I'm hoping this could be a steal....but Garcon has always been a lousy route runner.
I wouldn't even consider keeping Pettigrew but for some stupid reason this year we included Tight End's in the flex position, which will really limit the talent available.
Last option is not keeping either of them and rolling the dice on picking up better options in the 7/8 rounds. I'm leaning towards Pettigrew but some feedback would be appreciated.

In my opinion go with Brees - had him last year and he led our league in scoring. He carried me to the finals.
You have the luxury of not having to use high picks on receivers so you could stock up on a bunch of RBs in the early/mid rounds and hope to hit some homeruns.

In 2 keeper leagues + a redraft auction leage which is my favorite.
1st keeper is a full 1 PPR league. 3 keepers, had to have locked in yesterday. I kept Roddy White, Wes Welker and Greg Jenning. 3 top 10-15 WR that get a lot of targets. I'm happy with that and I pick 8th out of 12 in a snake draft.
2nd keeper is a .5 PPR league. 4 keepers and I am not happy at all. Selections need to be in sometime in a couple weeks so will have to see how camp goes. Options are:
Jamal Charles
Ahmad Bradshaw
Mark Ingram
Santana Moss
Reggie Wayne
Mike Williams (tbay)
Mario Manningham
Jacoby Ford
Fred Davis
I'm leaning towards Charles, Bradshaw and the two old receivers Moss and Wayne. I know both have rookie QB's, but they're still the best WR on their respective teams and a rookie QB needs to lean on the best to succeed. Worked for Newton and Steve Smith last year. Plus all the other guys suck. Thoughts? And I have first overall pick.

Personally....I hate WR's as keepers where you lose a pick to keep the player unless it's Calvin Johnson.
Every year someone breaks out at the position, Miles Austin, Brandon Lloyd, and Victor Cruz were waiver wire type pick ups the past three seasons who finished top 5 at the position. Especially with the amount of passing now, and matchup exploitation that co-ordinators love...I'd personally wait on that position in drafts.

What size of league is it in terms of teams, and are passing TD's worth 6 points? Brees at 4 could be a bit high, and could leave you in a real bind at RB if you keep the two receivers. Whereas guys like Eli Manning, Tony Romo, Jay Cutler can all put up pretty good point totals and be available later on. I actually like Josh Freeman as a sleeper to rebound from a bad year last year, and he gets quite a few good matchups.
If you end up with a backfield of Beanie Wells, and Shonn Green because it was 20 picks until you took a RB, could be a rough season. Especially in a flex format where other guys could have 3 RB's piling up 12-15 points in those three spots every week.

12 team league, 6 points for a passing TD and 1 point for 25 yards throwing.
MJD, Rice, Rodgers, CJ, Forte, McFadden, AP, Brees will all be free. McCoy will likely be kept in round 1 this year (the person keeping him drafts 3rd), so I guess technically I get 3rd pick.
I imagine 1 and 2 will be Rice and Rodgers. I would have liked McCoy at 4 but now it's kind of a crap shoot who I pick

Well if you pass on a RB in round one....all those guys are likely gone before you pick again. Depends on how comfortable you are with some tandem guys, or finding a Reggie Bush type value from last year elsewhere.
With 6 points for passing TD's...than taking a guy like Brees that high is worth considering. But in a 10 team league...there is depth at the position where you have to consider how much will Brees outscore a guy like Eli Manning, vs the idea of what can Ray Rice do vs the replacement player you'd pick in the next round.

Cowboys D was the last overall pick in the draft (I picked last), Bryant was 2nd last round. Sorta figured it didn't really matter which one I took so I just grabbed the highest rank at each.

We should have made the 3 leagues on here a keeper league. At least be able to keep 2 players.
That way having the A, B and C leagues would have more purpose, cuz someone right now in the C league can draft a good team and compete in the A league.

Need some help please. In a keeper league with no draft penalties for who you keep. Need to keep 2 of the following
Foster, DeMarco Murray, Lynch, A. johnson, Roddy White
I am keeping foster for sure...not sure who the other should be...i'm leaning towards demarco or lynch with all the depth at the WR position

I'd be warry of injury for Andre Johnson, and I think Julio Jones is going to eat into Roddy White's targets this year.
How long do you have to wait on this decision...I'd probably lean Murray over Lynch right now for two reasons...the risk that Lynch could get a 2-4 game suspension, and the NFC West does feature some teams who are not particularly easy to run the ball against in San Fran, Arizona, and St.Louis.
