Default Rogers Sportsnet realizes no one watches them, rebrands

This is actually a promising move for a TV network that hasn't done anything innovative since deciding to have hosts wear jeans during their highlight show.

A new logo:

PR fluff:

Quote:
Sportsnet, the first Canadian sports media brand to have five platforms, has created a unified brand across TV, radio, print, digital and mobile that engages audiences on a local, regional, national and global level.

The new look debuts on television on Monday, Oct. 3 on the evening edition of Sportsnet Connected, which opens on a restructured set with a contemporary animation and graphics package, new logo and theme music. At that time, the network will be renamed Sportsnet. On radio, digital and mobile, the new look also debuts October 3, while the brand campaign can be seen in print now with the official launch of the new bi-weekly Sportsnet magazine, which hits newsstands today. (Please see attachment for Sportsnet logo sheet).

"We are investing in our growth and brand integration. Through our extensive consumer insights, we discovered that Canadian sports fans want to feel and demonstrate pride and be engaged through integrated, interactive and expansive access," said Dale Hooper, Senior Vice-President, Sales & Marketing, Rogers Media. "Our cutting-edge campaign brings the powerful Sportsnet brand under one umbrella across all our platforms."

At least it won't be referred to as ROGER's Sportsnet anymore.

They should allow TSN guys back on their radio stations. I miss McGuire and Dreger.

That logo makes it look like they are planning to buy the Buffalo Bills...

It pains me to think of how much money it must have cost them to come up with this idea.

Is their iPhone app still only available to people who are Rogers mobile customers, or have they figured out how ridiculous that is?

The strangest thing in all this is the launch of a new sports print magazine - in an environment where mags are suffering big time.

Not sure if that's a sound business move.

Does having a "unified brand" mean the zone branded channels will be renamed?

Sportsnet 8 - The Ocho?

That's TSN's doing more than Sportsnet's.

Rebrand all you want, its not gonna change anything if you have crappy on-air hosts. Poor talent is poor talent, no matter what kind of pants you let Jason Portuondo wear.

Does this mean the change from Setanta to SportsnetWorld will be happening as well?

EDIT - nm, found it in all the fluff.

Day 1 of Sportsnet Mag deathwatch.
Stephen Brunt left the Globe and Mail to be a part of this. It could be a quality product.

http://www.sportsnet.ca/more/2011/09...hen_sportsnet/

Rogers Sportsnet announced that former Globe and Mail sports columnist Stephen Brunt has signed an agreement to work exclusively on a full-time basis across all Sportsnet media platforms.

Brunt, one of the most influential and respected commentators in the world of sports, will be the back-page columnist on Sportsnet magazine, which will debut on Thursday, September 29th. He will also be a regular columnist and feature contributor on sportsnet.ca. In addition to his current role as a co-host on Sportsnet Radio The FAN 590’s Prime Time Sports with Bob McCown and contributions on Sportsnet Radio The FAN 960, he will also make appearances on Sportsnet Connected and continue his insightful video essays.

A magazine for Canadian sports fans

http://www.sportsnet.ca/more/2011/09...agazine_maich/

The first edition of Sportsnet magazine will target the icons most near and dear to the collective hearts of Canadians: hockey players. Thursday’s launch include a 35-page National Hockey League season preview, a feature story written by sportsnet.ca senior columnist Mark Spector that takes readers inside the Canucks’ dressing room after the crushing Game 7 loss to the Boston Bruins last spring and a cover story by Gare Joyce on the future of Sidney Crosby.

The only good thing about Sportsnet before is when Mike Toth would talk about Ed Whalen randomly.
