Suggestions for 46-47" LED TV??
Hey all,
I'm sure there are other discussions, but don't see anything really recent on this.
Anyway, looking to purchase 46-47" LED TV in near future.
I'm looking for suggestions on brands & what features specs I should pay attention to.
All thoughts welcomed and appreciated!

I've gone with Samsung for the last 2 I've bought and have been thrilled with them.
http://www.memoryexpress.com/Product...6%28ME%29.aspx $1199 ... if you don't care about 3D... if you want 3D you've gotta add $500 or so to that.

Have you thought about a plasma?
I think it's obligatory to discuss plasmas for a page before we can recommend an LED.
Anyways if you want the top of the line local dimming LED, look at Sony (HX929), LG (LW9800?) or maybe a Sharp.
Edge Lit LEDs are the Samsung UNxxD8000, 7000, etc, or Sony HX820, HX729, EX720 etc with numerous LGs, Sharps etc.
I think you mostly get what you pay for but right now Samsung is very popular but maybe overpriced.

Of course if you pick a size & brand (and model) of a tv you want - shop around, someone will always have it on sale somewhere.

I just bought a Sharp Aquos LED (40 inch though). I always trusted Samsung but found the closest model Samsung LED had a lot more screen glare, the Sharp has a matte screen.
The only thing I don't like about LED is you can see some spotlighting or light bleeding when you are watching dark scenes - but I think this is a problem with all LED's because they are backlit that way. Overall the Sharp's colours and HD images are stunning. Pretty happy with it for the price.

I got mine from Best Buy. Keep an eye out for sales. The TV I bought was being adverstised on their website for a sale price of $999. But I went into the store one weekend and it was on for $799.
Here's the 46" version of the tv I got...I've seen it as low as $999.

Still got the TV Watch on - plan on buying 1st art of October when I move to the new pad...
Thoughts on this Toshiba 46" from Visions?
Link:
http://www.visions.ca/catalogue/cate...2&sku=46SL412U
Description:
Quote:
"Sleek and elegant, the 46SL412U’s LED backlight features energy savings and a slim design - bringing entertainment into any living space with style.
•LEDTV: Toshiba's 46SL412U includes Edge LED Backlight technology, transforming these models into slimmer, brighter, more energy efficient televisions. A higher Contrast Ratio can also be achieved providing brighter whites and deeper blacks than traditional CCFL backlight televisions.
•ClearFrame™ 120Hz: Doubles the standard frame rate to 120 frames per second or 120Hz by utilizing superior Motion Vector Frame Inter#polation (MVFI) technology. Incorporating the power of the PixelPure 5G video processor, MVFI creates new video frames and inserts them between the original frames. This advanced system virtually eliminates motion blur without decreasing image brightness, or adding flicker. Images are now crisp and clear regardless of image motion."

Good advice. I also recommend pouring salt directly into your eyes and drinking a botle of draino.
You get what you pay for and a Vizio is a big stinking pile of dog turd.
If you want a 46" LED buy Sansung. If you only think you want LED but are open then buy Panasonic. If you buy LG, Toshiba or Sony you are paying more for less. If you buy Vizio or any Walmart brand, well, don't brag to anyone about your sweet new set.

Thanks Achmed - am I assuming when you mention open to other options & Panasonic, you are referring to plasmas then? I guess I'm probably opening a whole new line of thoughts here. For the record, I am definitely open to other options. I might be making the wrong assumption LED is the way to go...

Ahh, a 12 year old Samsung fanboy. Nothing wrong with Samsung but there are a few other TV brands and models that fit the needs of various buyers.
The best rated LED TV is the Sony HX929 and the best rated plasma is the Panasonic VT30, although the Samsungs are close.
I don't know much about the Vizio.

Yes I am 12 and yes I am a Samsung fan.
Oh wait, I haven't been 12 in over 20 years and I don't own a Samsung, uh, anything. But good try.
Every Sony product is like every Apple product. Part of the price is the name. Buy a Sony TV and you get a lesser TV than you would paying the same amount for another brand. Samsung is the way to go for LCD at 46" because for the same qulity in TV you have more money left in your wallet.
If you'd like to continue to hurl insults I might suggest you don't try and do so with someone who hasn't worked in the home electronics industry for ove a decade.

Paying for the Sony name, yep but no more so in the last couple of years than Samsung. As for LG, I've found them very good.
As for working in the home electronics industry, good for you but mostly I've found the salesmen to know little but the party line of their store.

Congradulations for shoping in bi box stores with low salary employees who really don't give a crap. You can find the same in the car industry as well. Not everyone out there knows little and cares only what might make them money. Also, I didn't say I was a sales person at a big box retailer.
I've found far more poor and miss-information from know-it-all consumers like yourself that's far more damaging than a simple uncaring employee.
You will always pay more for the names Sony and Apple. Doesn't matter what the produt is. LG makes decent higher end product but their entry level is sub-par. They and toshiba are trying to cash in on passive 3D home monitors by missleading consumers about their 3D not actually being 3D.
Cral12 - stay away from Sharp, especially if you love watching hockey. It will take 1 game of seeing 2 pucks all the time for you to shoot your brand new TV.
Edge lit LEDs will have light creeping in the sides. Full array backlit should not. Should I said.
The Pany plasma's will give you the best motion because they run at 600hz not 60 pretending to be 120 or 240 and looking like cardboard cut-outs, and they will have the highest contrast ratio giving you the deepest blacks and there for better colour reproduction.

I haven't been the one offering know-it-all advice. I've been pretty general and only suggest something that I've already tried. I try to offer links so the purchaser can make their own decision. The thing is all the manufacturers produce some duds and I agree and have also said that you mostly get what you pay for.
My latest TV is a edge lit 3D Sony and luckily it doesn't have any light creeping out of the corners and from what I've read most of the owners of this model also have great panels. As for full array LEDs, Samsung doesn't make any so you have to go to the Sony HX929 or the LG LW9800.
What I've read about the Sharps is that the fourth colour ones are almost impossible to calibrate, so I agree they aren't a good buy.
Still whatever somebody decides to buy, it's their decision and most seem to be happy with their TVS so calling someones TV crap like you did, is way out of line.

Picked up one at Visions. Really happy with it except for PS3 games. The game mode is not good at all. Maybe just characteristic of LED TVs though.
