I'd wager in the next week.

Just because I think any trade would be rather complex and require a lot of discussion and negotiating.

everyone seems to think we should trade whatever we can for Eichel, so send Mangiapane, Dube, Kyllington, 2022 1st, 2023 2nd.

All these things are the future and young guys Buffalo wants and Flames could just fill in the lineup with minor players and/or waiver guys because Eichel is going to play 30 minutes per night so they don't need a 3rd of 4th line.

When talking about what other teams could offer or would offer, I try to put myself in the shoes of a fan of those teams. Overall, eichel does not make sense for most of those teams. I don’t think a fan of those teams would be too happy if their team gave up what Buffalo wants.

For example, if I was a fan of a Anaheim, would I want management to trade Zegras+ for eichel? Definitely not. The team is in a rebuild and has what many considered to be the best prospect/young player in the NHL - one that is poised to become a top 10 centre in the league that is is younger than eichel and is healthy and cost-controlled. Trading for an injured eichel and giving up an asset like that is very likely to backfire. Similar argument if they ask for drydale - one of if not the top defenseman prospect in the NHL.

Put myself in the shoes of an LA fan: absolutely no way am I including Byfield in any trade. Furthermore, my team is on the verge of coming out of a frustrating rebuild that has lasted for 5+ years. The team has a huge wealth of young talent and it could be severely depleted trading for an injured eichel. It’s not the time, we have too much to lose going for him.

I will continue to believe Calgary is the perfect trade destination for Eichel.

- Western conference team
- Has a desire in the player/willing to do what’s best regarding surgery
- Can offer significant pieces while also not gutting their core
- At the end of a window that’s been incredibly unsuccessful; mandate to win
- Able to fit a 10 mill contract
- Other western teams reportedly backing off

It makes too much sense not to happen.

I will say if Eichel proves he's healthy, you are in a win win situation. Either the team improves and you keep him or you realize the team still isn't good and you get to trade a healthy Eichel for big time assets in a rebuild.

Worst case obviously is he's hurt and you suck but even then you at least are forced into a rebuild.

So Larry brooks article is speculating that rangers would include Kakko If eichel was 50% retained.

That seems ridiculous, but it does make me wonder if some retention is on the table and that is increasing negotiations.

Also, hf is abuzz with San Jose speculation. We cannot let another Thornton situation happen.

Flames trade:

Monahan
Mangiapane
Coronato
1st, ‘22
2nd, ‘23

Leaving them:

Gaudreau-Eichel-Coleman
Tkachuk-Lindholm-Dube
Lucic-Backlund-Lewis
Pelletier-Zary-Ritchie

Hanifin/Tanev
Zadorv/Andersson
Valimaki/Kylington
Stone

Let’s ####ing go.

Those bottom two lines - ouch. Which is why I'm against the deal including too many higher end prospects. Flames have no high end prospect depth, and we need to keep those to build a steady pipeline. Give up too many of these guys and 1sts, and that is exactly what's going to happen - very good top two lines and atrocious bottom two. Teams will just focus on shutting down the top two. Terrible spot to be in.

The only reason HF thinks that SJ will make a pitch for Eichel is because the news about the investigation of E. Kane just broke.

That kind of retention on eichel would be crazy. Plus it’s not like retaining salary for one or two years… it’s 5 years and it would be $5 million in salary retention. I can’t see that happening. If they are truly willing to retain that much salary, I don’t think the flames have the assets to get eichel. His value would be too high.

San Jose is such a strange team. They seem unable to rebuild properly because of all the old players that they have signed to long-term contracts. I’m not familiar enough with their prospects to know if they have what it takes to get eichel and I’m not sure how much cap space space they have. They have a lot of expensive contracts I think. Also, they were burned very recently by trading a large package of players to acquire a superstar player.

However, would not surprise me to see them go for him. They’ve been a good team for so long, they probably don’t like the taste of being a bad team that rebuilds through high picks.

With all that's rumored, Buffalo is definitely only taking 1 roster player unless maybe a young dman is involved. So it's Monahann, magiapane, or maybe Tkachuk+

I still think we're headed somewhere like monahan+valimaki+zary+1st or mangiapane+andersson+pelletier+1st

I dont think Buffalo would retain half, but retaining 1-2 mil would still have plenty of value.

I know this is all fantasy anyway but that third line with pitlick on the right would actually be a really good shutdown line. Backlund and lucic both had quite good underlying stats last year and pitlick is a natural right shot who had negative corsi but not by much on a bad Phoenix team.

I think you could easily fill the 4th line with a combo of the hungriest from a group of ptos and the players listed and have 3 real solid lines and a league average 4th.
