Certainly matchups played some role, but are we thinking his matchups were vastly different when he was on the top line in his rookie year and didn't have such a disparity?

Here is what I gleaned from game sheets of the WCH games:
· In the Prelim round Team NA played one "road" game v. Team Europe that they won 4-0; Gaudreau scored an even-strength goal and had an assist on a power play goal.
· In the Group stage Team NA played two "road" games: v. Finland they won 4-1, and Gaudreau scored an even-strength goal. V. Sweden they won 4–3 in OT, and Gaudreau scored an even-strength goal, and had a 3v3 assist.
So that is 3 GP, 3G, 5Pts; 3 EVG, 1 PPA, 1 3v3A
It's a very small sample size, but it looks fine to me. I tend to think Gaudreau's struggle against road-matchups is probably a little overblown.

Yeah I can how a person might feel that way when they are probably going to sign the biggest deal in the history of the franchise

I think that while it is admirable to explore in this manner, the home/road thing being studied by temporary teams with temporary coaches makes it too different of a situation.
The NHL has teams that work on their system all year and have as much videotape as required to break down their opponent based on a much larger and more relevant body of work.

Wait. Let me get this straight. You're a former energy industry worker and current evolutionary biologist/mathematician/high-level economics teacher who, in his early thirties (judging by the bowl cut photo which you said was taken a decade ago), has already mastered all of these fields? And you've taught Murray Edwards how to negotiate?
Either you have a ton of time on your hands, or you are telling some fibs. Judging by your posting frequency (which is high) and the downright ridiculousness of some of your statements (you seriously taught Fortune 500 executives finance skills?), I'm assuming it to be a little of both.

This is the same load of crap you've been trying to spin all along.
The Flames agenda is and always has been to get the player at the most cap friendly deal moving forward relative to where this player currently is vs. future risk/reward. They have a team to build moving forward which is going to be just as vital to them as it is Guadreau in his (likely) long tenure here.
In addition that, they also have a keen eye on not altering the pay structure of young players in this position moving forward, both for their own interests, as well as the rest of the teams in the league.
Trying to spin that as the Flames being the bad guy simply looking to "use his love of the game against him" is exactly the kind of fanboy garbage that's lead to just about everyone here finding you insufferable.

Gaudreau's home vs road stats can be viewed as negative but it didn't seem to be as big as issue in his rookie year so could just have been bad luck
I will point out a stat I like about Gaudreau that never seems to be pointed out
Vs playoff teams - ppg 0.98
vs Non Playoff Teams - ppg 1.00
You will be hard pressed to find anyone that can say their numbers are just as good against the best teams as they are against the worst. I did this stat for an Oiler fan and pointed out Mcdavid had 0.75 vs playoff teams and 1.33 vs non playoff teams and included huge point nights against teams like Buffalo and Toronto. Playing good against good teams just as important as playing well on the road. Good teams beat bad teams even if their best player doesn't get 5 points but good teams will lose to good teams if their best players get shut down

That's fair. But I still maintain Gaudreau is not as bad on the road as his numbers would suggest from last season. Moreover, given that I accept your assertion regarding the significant contribution of coaching over the course of a full NHL season, I also promote that is a major factor for why Gaudreau's home/road split from last season was so unbalanced.
In short, he will be much better on the road this year.

Whoah, who said I mastered evolutionary biology? Or mathematics? Those are 2 of my interests.
I still don't understand why the board is so obsessed with me. Off topic posts about me outnumber my on topic posts lol.

I dont think it matters for Gaudreauovertime. He probably wont post much anymore(after Gaudreau signs) because hes not a Flames fan.

I think he signs 7 years, same as Monahan. I'll say 7 x $7.25.

We can hope that happens but I doubt it and it'll only get worse for us if he sticks around after Gaudreau signs. This is the type of poster that will continue to build up his one player and continue to dislike the player and team that surround him.
Gaudreau's points are down? linemates fault
Gaudreau got plastered? Why aren't his teammates sticking up for him
Gaudreau late for practice? The team has to insure it starts in accordance with his hangover.
One note posters only get worse, never better.

Technically, former Editor of the once standalone Financial Post (until Conrad Black and Hollinger acquired it and morphed it into the National Post), After that, yes, a columnist and the largely ceremonial "Editor-At-Large." Certainly not involved with day-to-day personnel decisions over the last 18 years.

All I keep reading on this thread is blah blah blah Gaudreauvertime is so dumb. Blah blah blah. You're all just acting like high school kids who look for the one person to pick on and wait until it has become fashionable to hate on this person so that you can seek social approval of others to make you feel more popular....It's seriously pathetic guys. Opinions are subjective for the most part and people should be able to express those opinions on the forum and shouldn't fear that they will be cyber bullied in response. You me and everyone at some point has said something that some may not agree with. But at this point this is turning into a witch hunt. Give the dude a break and please let's get the thread back to discussing the Gaudreau extension and not slanging our cyber wang's on the table.

Yes, and she had nothing to do with any editorial decisions at the National Post. Ever. She was always on the FP side, and wrote an inflammatory column for many years. Not sure what she does these days. Probably enjoying retirement, and reading Eric's sports columns.

I don't know if it's bullying, but in my opinion I think Gaudreauvertime is just dense.
Arguing with these kinds of people is pointless. It's better to ignore him and continue on.
If he replies to one of your posts, realize everyone who reads it is already shaking their heads and therefore you have no reason to reply or defend yourself, unless you want to.
I don't mind when people share their opinions, it's worth the read even if I completely disagree. The more opinions on a subject the more defined or understood your perspective becomes.
I don't think this should turn into a bashing contest. I know everyone likes to poke fun, but when it becomes an active cult of el basho, lol. It's probably better to find a more kind or more productive way of dealing with things.
