The 'source' I cited earlier with the gap being over term, is expressing they also heard a deal is imminent. Hopefully within 48 hours. They had nothing to offer about term and/or dollars, but it will be done by the weekend.
All I can say is they do work for the team. And they aren't selling Pocket Dawgs.
You are a beautiful, beautiful man. Thank you.

Genuine question though: does anyone think it will be less than 8 years?
I'm guessing that he understands that this is his primary payday.
If there has been a thaw in the negotiations, I wonder if its because they started focusing on a shorter term, which allows the Gaudreau camp to be satisfied with a lower AAV. So maybe it will be a 6 year term? If so, the AAV better be under $7M.

If I make this post my source, does that make me Orange Julius?
7 years. I'm REALLY hoping it'll come in under 7 AAV but I could live with 7 and I suspect it'll be closer to 7.25.
Honestly at this point I almost don't even care if he signs, I just want the Flames to do what's right for the team (and the league) long term. It's kind of funny that players are trying to "future proof" their salaries against a potential lockout, and if that lockout comes its primary driver will be escalating player salaries and the effective elimination of the 2nd contract.

I'm of the opinion that anything over $7.0 m on a seven-year deal is a big overpayment on this contract from the Flames, but I also see little chance that his deal is only six years. Having said that: if it is, then it will almost certainly come in at a number that also begins with "6".

It will be one of these IMO Leaning towards the six year term. That puts him up for a new contract just as Giordano's contract expires and we can give him the moon if he's earned it.

All I can say, is Johnny better build the hype like nobody's business. The day he signs, he just needs to post a picture of a pen on his Twitter/Instagram feed.
An 8 year contract would be amazing. Any way you look at it, it would cover his prime years and allow us to trade him near the end of the contract without remorse.
