I'd say bang on. It depends how you value Edstrom v Bzrustwicz but imo Edstrom doesn't have much upside at all. I said this a few days ago when people were talking about him as return for Hanifin. I think we actually got a better return.
The hold out to the deadline for value crowd seems to have some counterproof to chew on now. Monahan got more than Toffoli. Lindholm perhaps more than Hertl.

Wait, SJ sent the 3rds?
Not so good for the Sharks after all. Plus their 3 retention spots are used up.

No, all the picks went from Vegas to SJ. Vegas got Hertl and SJ got everything else, except the retained on Hertl salary.

The 3rds going to Vegas is crazy. In 2025, Vegas down grades from a first to a third, but that might be only 35 picks or so.

These are the only players under contract for Vegas in 25-26:
Pietrangelo:36
Stone: 33 (history of injuries)
Karlsson: 33
Hertl: 32
Barbashev: 30
Eichel: 29 (History of injuries)
Roy: 29
Whitecloud: 29
No notable young players that are RFAs to back fill. No real top prospects, And now have traded their 2023, 2025, and 2026 1st round picks.
I personally really look forward to having their 2026 un-protected 1st round pick.

Maybe I am old fashioned but I believe in the fairness of sport and competing with integrity. What they do is the not that.

at the end of the day, you cannot make a player sign an extension. Hanifin obviously wants to test the market or has a team in mind that didn't have the assets/cap space to match Vegas' offer
Maybe he wants to come back to Calgary after eliminating the Oilers.

Hertl is 30 years old and he's got a contract that is not going to bring much savings if you have to buy it out in a few years. Its one of those contracts (like the Flames have) that will likely be ugly in a few years.

Burns come off after next year but Karlsson is on the books till the end of 26/27 and now Hertl till the end of 29/30.

the 3rds going the other way is a big deal. Not a fan of this deal for the Sharks then ... the 1st and Edstrom are nice pieces, but I don't think that justifies having to retain for 5 years AND giving up two decent mid-round picks on top of that.

Sharks are also on the verge of getting a Penguins unprotected 1st in 25.
They have 2 years before Burns retained salary is up. They are going to be stuck at the bottom for 2 more years. They are going to look very good after that though.

I don't think so. They just gained a tonne of flexibility. Got out of a 6 year contract that could hamper them when they actually have their next core to sign.

And with very few picks left in any draft until then, I can see Vegas falling off the face of the earth. They can't keep pushing their assets away to not suffer eventually.

Vegas is 3 days into the party vacation, they're betting $1000's on red and rolling for hard 8's at the craps table, they don't care about the Sunday hangover yet.

I guess TSN, Sportsnet, ESPN and NHL are all wrong. Thanks
Sportsnet and all have updated trade now, sorry for the incorrect response.
