Lindy’s definitely not signing for anything less than 9 now

Agreed Lindholm is better, but committing 8.5 million to ages 26-33 is definitely way way way more appealing than doing it for ages 30-38.

I see it a bit differently. Younger player, still untapped upside, but has the size and tenacity to be a beast in the playoffs too.
Given age and his ability to influence the game in other ways, I’d put more value in PLD than Lindholm.

But LA is gambling on Dubois being more productive than he's ever been to justify that salary. His career high season was 63 points, and he's a .36 PPG player in six full seasons. Lindholm's "down year" this year still beat Dubois' career high, and Lindholm's a .61 PPG over his career.

Yeah, don't ever believe that french players are waiting to go to Montreal. First Huberdeau and now Dubois. They were suppose to sign UFA for Montreal and play together Jult 1, 2023.

Dubois had one less point than Lindholm while playing 7 games less this past season. He also brings a power forward style game that Lindholm doesn’t.
The salary cap is going up in the coming years. Dubois won’t need to be more productive to justify 8.5.
Although Lindholm is better defensively, 3.5 years age difference is too big for me. If it was one or the other I would go with PLD.

For impact over the next 3 years, I would take Lindholm, but I would rather sign PLD to this contract than Lindholm.
(given the Flames' position, I would rather sign neither)
Lindholm does have the benefit of having a very small cap hit this season, and will go up only after the NHL salary cap goes up by 5+ million.

Three 1B centers have been signed to 8 x 8.5 in the last 4 months
Elias should expect no more or less at the same term.

What he should expect and what he wants may be two different things entirely.
He really holds the cards, as his agreement or reluctance to accept a deal pre-UFA can make a huge difference to both the Flames and a team trading for him. It puts huge pressure on either team to blink and overpay him.

I think as the years go by this contract won't be bad when he's in his 30's assuming salary cap movement in the coming years. I just don't like the player at all and don't think he's the type of guy you bring in if you are trying to win a cup.

He only holds the cards that Conroy is willing to give him. He has no trade protection, Conroy could send him to Arizona for a row of seats.

29-37. He’ll be 37 when his contract is up.

No, it doesnt. You dont want a 37-year-old making $8.5+ on your roster.
Its bad enough with Huberdeau and Kadri, and I'm okay with Weegar.
