I've seen Sutter say a lot of things publicly that weren't necessarily true. The plan all along? Maybe. Even if that's the case, there's still a chance it sits with Markstrom the wrong way. Talking to him in training camp he specifically talked about how hard it is in Vladar's position not playing much. I don't think he was in on the plan.

If that’s the case, then Markstrom needs to play better when the chips are down. If there is any kind of controversy, it’s because he wasn’t good enough. But I don’t think there’s any controversy. Vladar has earned the coaches trust, so he wants to make sure Markstrom is fresh come playoff time this year.
