In 2006 the Flames were the weakest Division winner in the Western Conference. They were nine points behind both SJ and Dallas, and only five points ahead of Anaheim. The Flames that year had only three more wins than the Ducks, had scored fewer goals and had a lower goal-differential.

They may have had home ice advantage, but going into that series they did not look like a clear favourite, and plenty of observers were picking the Ducks to win that series.

The situation this year is vastly different.
