It's incredibly unlikely but if we could somehow land Stone at a decent contract that would solidify this team. They could push Lindholm to 2nd line centre and Backs to the 3rd line.Gaudreau - Monahan - Stone
 Tkachuk - Lindholm - xxxx
 Bennett, - Backlund - Frolik
Pretty potent top 9 with lots of depth to fill the holes. Not sure if the cap can work though.

If we got Mark Stone, how would the jersey situation work with his brother here?
Would we have Mi. Stone and Ma. Stone on the jerseys? One gets an M. Stone on the jersey?

I like it but Rangers want picks and prospects for their rebuild. And at this point Brodie and Frolik are more important for our run than Zuccarello & McQuaid

Easy solution
Trade Giordano
Put a C on Mark Stone's jersey

I could see Dube, Kylington, 1st, and conditional 1st for Mark Stone, but only for him.
It would be less for others in play.

 Time will tell...

There is a log-jam on the left side of Calgary's defense. I have to think someone from there has to go. If not in the trade, then in the off-season to recoup picks.
Maybe it's Valimaki for a re-signed stone straight up.

2 Firsts, a second, Jankowski and Dube for signed Stone, that should get it done.

No he wouldn't.

Simmonds would be coming in to play bottom 6 and add grit to the lineup. We're short on that and Simmonds is one of the tougher guys in the league. He can also take a regular shift.

Simmonds would be an excellent addition, even if we get Stone.

I don't see the price being that much higher if you can work out an extension. This isn't a situation where the player is already signed and Ottawa has a lot of leverage. He is UFA and is leaving no matter what.

I'd actually consider that.

I think if you ship out a dman its a guy like Brodie who makes big money and will likely get a raise. Valimaki is someone you could get huge value out of. Brodie on his next deal is likely not great value.

Simmonds looks very diminished from what he once was. That style of play wears you down.
He's not a great skater and his defense is average. Right now he is not much of a step up on Frolik in my opinion when considering the total package.

Therefore the likely acquisition cost is too high

Yeah it makes a lot of sense for both teams. Valimaki is young but is projected to be a top pairing defenseman. And he's not on the roster.

Stone is the perfect age for Calgary and the perfect fit. If you're going to give up a future #1-2 defenseman, it should be for a top 30 forward in the game - which stone is.

I just want to stop you for a second.

Big physical player != Successful bottom sixer

These days those kind of players almost have to be sheltered in the top six with high skill guys. To be a successful bottom sixer you need to be that kind of Byron or Frolik type of 200 foot player who really flies up the ice.

We've somewhat noticed that since Neal has gotten hurt - Czarnik is a better bottom sixer than Neal, even if Neal might be a better "top sixer" at his best.

The Wizard is cooking something up! If not Stone then it will be Hayes. Hayes could be worth it just for the Johnny ignition factor.
