I love that the Flames targeted this guy and then took the time to "woo" him properly because they knew he'd get significant interest around the league.
Hopefully they targeted the right guy and he breaks out in a big way.

From his interview he seems quite excited and motivated to be coming to Calgary. Hopefully this gamble pays off and he's able to establish himself as an everyday NHL player.

Goes to show that things really do get taken care of once at a time when done with effort. As much as you'd like to think the GM just juggles messages, emails and phone lines, making the effort to go face to face can make an impact.

Czarnik maintained it over 64 games while only 39 games for Eat Bread (so more impressive) but still great to have them both.

Another solid signing. The Flames have greatly improved their forward depth today.

You have to look really hard not to like this trade. Term is only 2 years, and the money is low. What's the risk here, especially given the low number of contracts?

If Czarnik really can't get the NHL, you send him down to the Heat. No loss. If he works out, then you just have a younger player with upside on your hands that fills a number of needs. Considering that the Flames didn't have a first this year (or a 2nd, or a 3rd..) this was not only the right kind of signing, but a necessary one. This fills a few holes.

If the other younger players that are poised to compete for a spot in camp have an issue with it, well, they better just shut up. Compete for your spot, or move on. If I am Foo, Mangiapane, Shinkaruk, Klimchuk, Dube, etc., and I thought I had a strong chance to make the roster out of camp, nothing has changed. I just have to work even harder this off-season and make the Flames look like idiots for trying to sign someone better than me. I want all the players - young guys or vets - to play like they can be replaced. It is a competition for everyone that starts on the first day of the off-season, and doesn't stop until the last day of the season.

With Peters comments about using him on the PP, perhaps he replaces Hamilton on the 1st PP.

Out of all our signings, this is the one that really has me excited for next season. This is a kid known for:
 Hockey IQ
 Speed
 PP Skill
 Forecheck Tenacity
 Strong PKing
Production at every level at every age

And couple that with the fact that Peters has already discussed giving him PP opportunity rather than the typical BS coaches give.

Neal and Ryan will certainly fit from a goals or assists or faceoffs perspective, but Czarnik is the kind of nightmare-to-deal-with player team identities can be built up from.

Are there any breakdowns of his skills or game ie draft profiles? I haven't found anything that really analyzes his game or abilities. How good of a skater is he? How are his stick handling hands? etc

It sounds like you explained Tyler Johnson. He too is my favorite acquisition. I think he would play well with Bennett and Jankowski.

Went to google Austin Czarnik videos. 5 of the first 6 videos are "Edmonton Oilers said to be interested in Boston Bruins prospect..."
 Eat it Edmonton. He's ours.

Clearly, he meant he's bigger than Johnny Gaudreau, whom the NHL lists as 5' 9", 157 lb

you'd think Flames fans, of all fan bases, wouldn't jump to conclusions based on player sizes alone...

low risk, high reward imo

If we don't give him a chance to play with good players and get decent ice time we will be throwing away an opportunity.Same opportunity Tampa could have wasted with St Louis or Florida could have wasted with Marchessault.
Maybe he does not work out, but you have to give him a chance to show what he can do, like St Louis and Marchessault were finally able to do.
