I don't think delivery is even a priority. They probably just want to make a big enough explosion so that they can have a bargaining chip for financial aid.

Assuming Un is like his predecessors.

Delivery is a priority. The threat to South Korea and Japan has to be legitimate. It's the reason for their rocket program.

I don't think he's even close. I remember reading a book on the Kim dynasty, and the one thing that was shared by (ok, I'm going to call them Kim 1 and Kim the second), is they were as Madeline Albright called them crazy like a fox. they knew what they were doing, they knew when to bluster, when to lay off and how to get their way.

Right now Un, is beyond being completely overwhelmed, he's incredibly spoiled, even more of a despot then his predecessors, and seems to genuinely have sadistic streak to him.

I believe that this test is more about internal issues then external issues. It sounds like there is literally a war happening between the Intelligence and internal security side of things and the Military, and Un is playing sides.

Allowing this Nuke test or bluff, feels like something that the Military would want and Un is currying favor with the guys with the guns.

The other rumor is that the Military is extremely loyal to the party, while the Internal Security Service is China sympathetic.

In light of the recent nuke test, China has finally broke with it's traditional stance and joined the rest of the world leveling more sanctions against North Korea.

Quote:
South’s Ministry of National Defense (MND) said Friday that China has expressed intent to participate in the United Nations Security Council’s sanctions against North Korea.

China’s agreement reportedly took place in a working-level defense policy meeting with South Korea.

“During the meeting held in Seoul, the Chinese Defense Ministry said North Korea’s fourth nuclear test violated UN Security Council resolutions and the September 19 joint statement, so they also offered their opinion that they will to participate in the resolution on North Korea,” the MND told NK News.

Inter-Korean tensions have risen since North Korea’s recent nuclear test. Last Friday the MND announced its plan to use loudspeakers to broadcast propaganda at the North. Soon after the broadcast went live, North Korea reacted by installing own speakers to counter the South’s effort.

Two days ago thousands of North Korean leaflets, including those ones directing profane insults at South Korean President Park Geun-hye were dropped in and around Seoul. On the same day, a North Korean unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was also spotted near the inter-Korean border.

Recently, South Korea urged that China continue its involvement in countering the North, and has spoken of the need to deploy the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system on the Korean Peninsula, something China has opposed.

Sanctions will do very little to push the Kim Dynasty off of the stage. The elite will continue to eat and purchase technology and other goods through their underground procurement departments. The people starving means very little to the leaders there, and the government basically owns all the guns, and when people are eating grass and fighting starvation day by day they don't have time to rise up.

The only way to elicit change is to convince China to foment a regime change or sponser a coup through their intelligence service.

That's if we want to get rid of these monsters.

Add on my thoughts that if North Korea becomes further isolated with China turning on them that they will do something truly desperate to punish the rest of the world for so called screwing them.

adding on to the ongoing situation, North Korea is possibly preparing to test fire a ICBM. While they may claim its a space shot, the technology behind a ICBM remains the same.

The speculation is that the North Korean's are preparing to test launch a BM25 Musudan intermediate range missile which has a range of 4000 kms which would allow them to easily hit any target in Asia. Its also a mobile launch capable missile.

It could also be something new, or the Unha space launch multi-stage rocket which can launch satellites, but could be a ballistic launch system.

We know that NK has claimed to exploded a hydrogen bomb, which I still have doubts about. But usually once you figure out how to miniaturize a war head, you start working on a delivery system. If the NK's have a effective bullet. Inventing the gun is a huge development.

Looking back at all their previous rocket tests, I don't have much confidence they could get an ICBM much farther than their coastline...

Just a little bump.

The crazies have test fired a missile this morning. It was all over the news here in Japan.

I wonder if there will be another round of demands for financial aid or goods following this little experiment?

Anyway not great news to wake up to on a Sunday morning, if you live in the area.

The satellite they launched is tumbling in orbit and is useless

I'm amazed they got it to 500km up, considering their previous attempts.
