That's the cherry on top. Kid grew up in Lloyd as an Oiler fan, went to an Oilers prospect camp, and still turned down an Oilers contract (a team that desperately needs to improve its defence) to sign with the Flames.

Sounds like a nice find. Most sought after NCAA FA this season.

Plus, you have to think that the oilers offered him an NHL deal and NHL ice time this season.

Put me in the category that's never heard of him before today, but is excited to have him on the Flames!
I've come to trust our NCAA scouting and for damn good reasons. Fills a very specific and obvious hole in the lineup. RH D-man with some size and a booming shot.

Cue butthurt oiler fans saying that he's not good and they didn't want him anyway.

"Haven't heard a single bad thing about them." - why he chose the Flames.
Close to home.
There were a few teams interested, let his adviser whittle down the teams that were the best fit.
Wouldn't comment on whether he was an Oilers or Flames fan growing up.

Don't know the kid but depth is never a bad thing. I also like how it screws the oilers.

I got the feeling Smid is done with the Flames. Diaz only signed for a year I believe and Douglas Murray they haven't even sign yet. Not sure about Schlemko's contract status. Wotherspoon will be in Calgary so if Morrisson plays well in Adirondack this season and use that experience to his advantage in the training camp, we will see the young guns on the third pairing early next season.

Schlemko is a pending UFA I think.

Does that NHL equivalency doohicky, thing mean anything when it comes to defencemen?
If so, anyone done it with Morrison?

It doesn't mean much for a more defensive inclined defenceman as it measure offensive output and not his contributions defensively, but FWIW his NHLe is 14pts.

Also a sign he is an intelligent player. Was not interested in the No-goods to the North!
