Stating the obvious, Our GM has to prove he can do the job.
Treliving said he underestimate how far along the club was in the rebuild.
Translation, I had all that cap space so I wasted it on Eng and Ray, (add Stajan).
Now, when time comes I will have no money to spend on assets that could help the kids, thus I have set back the club by a year or two, but that's ok, perhaps nobody will notice.
They have more cap space than anyone. Not sure what you are ranting about

They have plenty of cap space left if they want to use it right now.

Those players are taking spots from Ferlands of the world already, in a year if you add Sam and Poirier, somody will have to go. Eng, Ray, Stajan contracts are unmovable. So, who goes, well some of the kids. Good job.

We're pretty much at the cap floor, and Brad Treliving has been given the green light to spend to the cap.
Not only are his deals not stopping him from being able to sign kids later on, he actually had to sign them just to get to the cap floor.

Best case scenario for the prospects (develope well) + worst case solution for vets (can't be traded) = jumping to conclusions. It's silly to think that all 3 of them are sure fire for the club next year and that engelland, Raymond and stajan have absolutely no value.

Maybe lets wait to see how it plays out eh? How is Eng taking a spot from Ferland. The Flames don't have a pile of dmen knocking on the door. Wotherspoon maybe but he's better served in the A for now

Ferland could be playing instead of Bollig already.
Sam would be playing right now if not for injury.
I hardly picked best case scenario. Poirier is our top prospect not named Sam or in Nhl already. I could have mentioned half a dozen names for it to be called best case scenario. And everyone of those would have an upside.
As for vets. A year ago nobody wanted Ray for free, he hasn't gotten younger or better. Eng, nobody is going nowhere Near that contract.. Perhaps you could move Stajan.
Additionally, it's not as though the players being ranted about are taking valuable minutes away from young players. I'd far rather they play significant minutes down in Addy rather than 4th line minutes up here in Calgary. I'm far from an expert but that seems to be the better course for their development.

Nope. There's some kids knocking at the door, but I wouldn't say Poirier's 28 games makes him an automatic top six forward like Raymond. Nor does Ferland's cup of coffee.
Look, I think these players are going to be good, but if you think you can project who will be on this roster strictly based on where we are now and every prospect making the jump, you're wrong.
Let's not scratch all our lottery tickets just yet. They need development time and the NHL is not the place for that

I'm predicting 3 kids to be impact Flames, not the other 10 that could be.
No klimchuk, no Sven , no Arnold, etc.
Addition of the 3 kids I mentioned, plus 1 d perhaps Spoon, that's hardly optimistic. Forward ranks will be crowded. Somebody will have to go.
Raymond is not a top 6 forward. He is soft, one dimensional, not a great scorer or passer, not great defensively either.
poirier has winner written all over him, 1 year of Ahl and he will be knocking, he is a little older too.

Sorry, but assuming 4 prospects are going to be impact players for the flames IS very optimistic in my view. To have that optimism is fine, but let's put the chips on the line in the AHL for a while longer and use our stopgap players in the meantime. That way we can gauge where each of them WILL fit in on the big club and not compromise the culture we have built so far.

Yes forward is crowded. That's not a bad thing. That is about 1 million times better than coming into the season with an 18 year old German kid plugged into a second line center role because you have nothing else. Treliving, and everyone here too I'd imagine, would rather take a hit burying a contract or trading a vet for magic beans when needed. No harm is done be not doing that right now.
theo, you do realize all these kids are still on entry level contracts, right?
so, even if they all end up on the flames next year their cap-hit is still going to be the same.
I'm not the hugest fan of brad's off-season signings - i agree with you, they have been outperformed by the kids - but their caphit doesn't affect the kids or our ability to sign or play them.
No way Poirier was coming up any time soon. Ferland came up, showed a lot of promise but didn't score. Bennett is hurt and I'd rather he played bigger minutes elsewhere.
Raymond had a great year last year, and really has had only one off year. Stajan was here before, and does veteran stuff that is very useful. He has a lot to teach the young centres about on and off ice professionalism and has a ton of character. Bollig is not as advertised, sure, but if he plays like last game, he's useful.
Get rid of those guys and next year, with Glencross likely to be gone, you have forward vets of Jones and Hudler. And Backlund if you consider a guy like him as a vet. You don't just hand the keys to the kids. You need them to take second line minutes at most, not first line (see Hall, RNH, Eberle). You need them to take time in the AHL or minors like most rookies (see Draisaitl, Yakopov, Hall, RNH, Eberle). I predict Darnell Nurse will turn out better than those guys because he played an extra year on the minors. You need veteran leadership on a team usually not just airlifted in when the kids don't show it (see Ference v. Hall).
I would fire Burke and Treliving and hire Feaster and get back to assembling young talent and good FA signings like Hudler.
And maybe shooting out RFA offer sheets that would cost the Flames a bunch of penalties. The ROR deal alone could have cost Feaster his job.
Or picking up the likes of Chris Butler. Or Babchuk. Or signing Tanguay for a contract to age 36 that made him super hard to trade. Then trading him and Sarich for Jones and OBrien. Or giving a second pairing one dimensional defenceman a 5 year $26 million contract.

You don't like the Hiller signing or Brodie extension? Even the contracts that you probably don't like (Raymond and Engelland) don't have term. Not sure where you're going with this. Feaster did a great job in some respects and not so great in others. Jury's still out with Treliving.
