My solar company is all over the map today. Missed an opportunity to cash out for a nice gain.

Anyone know how I as able to put myself in a situation where I have negative money available? It's not to say I have negative value, but somehow I've spent more on stocks than I should be able to? My money on my USD says - $13,000.

I'm trying to figure out if I'm just reading the balance wrong, or if they allow a certain amount of credit.

The portfolio itself is strong, hey I'm in the top ten! But trying to figure out this blip here.

Ok, just talking my way through this, I see my buying power on the US side is significantly higher than my cash, which would seem to explain why I spent a little more than my cash limit. Still not sure why though. Is there overlap between the USD and CDN accounts?

I've never used a margin account in real life but I think you can go spend more cash than you have but you have a pay interest on the amount you go over. Though I could be wrong.

That is correct. Margin is like borrowing money. Good for upside. Can kill on the downside.

ISR up 110% now!

No. I actually hate penny stocks, unless I find ones severely undervalued or with massive potential that makes sense (patents, monopolies, disruptive). I discovered the ISR chart on Saturday so I did some digging to see why it moved so much. I liked what I read here:

http://seekingalpha.com/article/2089...rd-opportunity

After reading this article, I did more digging. Just using looking at the technicals alone I figured it was a safe entry and good long term bet.

"IsoRay is the exclusive manufacturer of Cesium-131. The pioneering brachytherapy therapy is one of the most significant advances in internal radiation therapy in 20 years. Cesium-131 allows for the precise treatment of many different cancers because of its unrivaled blend of high energy and its 9.7 day half-life (its unequaled speed in giving off therapeutic radiation).

In addition to its CMS codes, Cesium-131 is FDA-cleared and holds a CE mark for international sales in seed form for the treatment of brain cancer, prostate cancer, lung cancer, occular melanoma cancer, colorectal cancer, gynecologic cancer, head and neck cancer and other cancers throughout the body. The treatment can be deployed using several delivery methods including single seed applicators, implantable strands and seed sutured mesh, and several implantable devices including the GillaSite radiation therapy system, the world's only liquid radiation balloon catheter device used in the treatment of brain cancer."

These guys have a 98% efficacy rate with their patented cesium 123 therapy for prostate cancer AND it's already FDA approved. They have a monopoly, patent, a drug that works, FDA approval, low float, low market cap vs potential market share.

My other "monopoly" style pick is WBAI which I mentioned. It's the only government approved Chinese online betting site! I didn't buy it for the stock game, but I bought it for my real port and am up 7% in 2 days.

KNDI - big disrupter business. Pollution in China is so bad even their own government has admitted that people shouldn't even live in these cities. Those hundreds of millions of people on scooters and bike will need to upgrade to a car one eventually and the EV is going to be the way to go. The government is also putting aside big money for green tech subsidies. Kandi already has a step up on everyone. Again, this fits my criteria for an investment - monopoly, disrupter, patents, low market cap vs potential. In that since the previous ER on Dec 26th. I am hoping it's the next Tesla for me this year, which I had at $30 last year

I was looking at 3D printer and related companies as those are high growth areas ready to take off, but found a lot of the stocks were so high priced, hard to realize significant percentage increases in a short term. Of course I know that's not what a sound investment strategy is built on, but seeing as this is a one year contest, most of us are playing around with shorter strategies.

Anyway, I have to do more digging, can probably find something at a smaller price.

Yeah, had I read that article when you did, I would have been in on it too, but I didn't see it until after your told us about the symbol. When I read it I was like DAMN how did I miss that? Guess they released the big news was last Wednesday and they just started their gains yesterday and obviously today. That's unusual, usually you see companies taking off on rumours of news, the biggest gains made before the proof of the good news. This one had time to get in, and I missed it.

Damn Blackberry went the wrong way on me. Up up up that is! Haha. Oh well, it won't last.

Yeah I played DDD a little bit last year during its run as a trade, but I never "invested" in it. Way overvalued!

Interesting to read the different strategies. I'm more of a buy and hold type - but your gains today are hard to deny Neeper.

Wish there was a way to aggregate USD and CAD +/-, I don't think I'm far behind you Neeper.

I admit. I don't follow Canadian stocks at all! I don't know if that is weird or not. But I am not really into mining, metals, or energy. I like all the other stuff. I should just stay in cash in my CAD one so I don't average down. lol

I had trouble finding Canadian stocks at first too. And the worst part was finding a Canadian company that trades on both US and CDN exchanges. There's a lot of those, especially the ones we always hear about, cause their generally the bigger, more successful companies. I'm not a savvy enough investor to know which would be a better buy, or what the differences would be, when one company is on two exchanges.

I bought one mining stock that was on both exchanges. At least both stocks seem to follow each others direction somewhat similarly. Sold both yesterday for a gain.

My goto on the Canadian exchange has been to short BB. But that went in the opposite direction on me yesterday. Oh well, time to dollar cost average it. I wonder if they still call it the same thing when you're buying to short, instead of buying to own.

ISR up another 36% so far today. Looks like Ragz19 loaded up on ISR big time. Good work! Since this is a "competition" maybe I should keep my picks to myself!

This stock is moving like PLUG did just recently. Except, this company is not like PLUG at all fundamentally. Holding long and strong.

That's the spirit!

(the missing time really shouldn't make any difference, in fact you're ahead of all those that have lost money so far! )
