Yeah, when you buy a AR-15 it's no longer about protection. I mean who is breaking into your house? Rambo?

Anyone who owns a military assault rifle (not in the military) is a coward.

I love shooting guns, but I don't own any because they are a pain in the ass to acquire. This means the system is working.
I wish these gun people would just admit they just love guns. You ain't defending yourself in a 1300 sq ft bungalow with a ####ing AR-15, get real. MAYBE an argument could be made for a hand gun for home defense, but if you handgun is that accessible during a very unexpected attack, then you are an irresponsible gun owner. What's more, if you did retrieve your gun that fast, unless you are regularly training with weapons in high pressure situations, you are more of a danger to yourself and family than you are helpful. Finally ask yourself this, would you be OK murdering someone because they stole your $1200 TV?

Reasonable force is always the caveat that the courts use to determine whether it was justifiable or not.
LIke you said, if someone attacking you has a knife and is coming at you, you are allowed to use reasonable force to stop them, up to and including the use of firearm.
It's not reasonable to say that "they have a knife, they're in my house, and about to attack me, so I had to defend myself with a knife".
Also, "reasonable means to escape" is not a legal argument. By Canadian law you are not expected or required to escape from your home. Check into it.

Cool statement. Good thing that "military assault riffles" have been banned in Canada since the 1970's

Shooting someone in your house because they're stealing something would be considered "defense of property", and is not a legitimate reason to discharge a firearm in Canada.

The first part I agree, that has been long established a standard. It's your duty as the one defending yourself to do everything you can to de-escalate the situation and not use force unless absolutely necessary for the protection of your life or your family's. You can yell and bang around and try to get them to leave. HOWEVER, it is not your duty to escape from your house (from a legal perspective). Whether you choose to do that or not is entirely up to you.

Banning sales and getting every AR off the street and out of the hands of the public would be a start but would have little to no effect on gun culture, mass shootings ect.. Of the 380 million guns in the US it is estimated there are 20- 30 million AR's, less than 10%. Every AR could be confiscated tomorrow and the mass shootings would still occur. NOT SAYING THEY SHOULDN'T BE BANNED AND CONFISCATED, but this is not the solution.

You have not stopped being obtuse since your initial post, it is obvious you are not interested in genuine discussion.

I would think the threat of being shot would scare off a robber, you could pull out a pellet gun and chances are they'd flea. You could also shoot your handgun in the air, or blast them in the shin. The thing is when you have the gun you now have the power, it doesn't have to end with killing anyone.

I have been sharing nothing but facts with you fine folks. Being obtuse is most definitely NOT something in my character trait, so I'll take that under consideration and leave you folks in your nicely built echo chamber to "feel good" about "being right".

Agreed. I thought he did a really good job. Just wanted to point out he didn't just go to Uvalde to grieve with families, he was born there (the more you know ).

You’re in the “US Mass shooting thead”.
‘United States of America’, not ‘us’….

Rights are not absolute, especially when it comes to self defence in Canada. I can’t keep a trained attack Grizzly in my home and I can’t keep a loaded handgun beside my bed. If I use either to defend myself, even if my life is in danger, I run the risk of going to jail.
Nowhere does it say you have a right to own a firearm. Your argument is like saying I have freedom of movement so I have a right to drive a car. It’s just not true.

That misunderstanding must be your fault. Misunderstanding isn’t in his nature. Enjoy your echo chamber of “being right”!

At one point I contemplated owning a small handgun. I was living alone in a single house in a sketchy part of NE Calgary. I had lived there long enough that enough people knew I lived alone. Ie.. nobody ever saw a man go in and out of the house. I had the registration forms and was researching the process. I didn't really want to but what if I got broken into? For girls, it's different, It's not about the materials but what if I was captured or raped? I'm 5 feet nothing, can I fend of a perpetrator with a knife if I had a knife? But on the flip side, could I handle a gun properly under pressure? I would probably freeze anyways.
I never went through with it and eventually moved in with my boyfriend (now husband) downtown and there was no longer a need. To have a gun while living with someone and especially when I had my first daughter would be really stupid. There would be a 100X more chance we'd shoot each other than any hypothetical perpetrator.
Also, fact is, people won't break into houses with men living there unless it's targeted, like revenge plots. I know women living alone who have been threatened or attacked but never men. (maybe i don't know enough men)
