Man if they trade Kylington for Eichel what would people have left to talk about?

They truly do not treat him fairly compared to everyone else and it’s rooted in bias, nothing else. Cue some guy with fancy stats incoming to argue the opposite. Alternatively it’ll be an appeal to authority.

Kylington can pass the puck (very sorely needed), skates well and generates offence. Defensive mistakes are what happen when you take risks to create offence sometimes and we permit it for some (Brodie, Hanifin) but not others who’s careers get derailed (Kylington).
Im curious as to what bias exists for him, who created it, and how 4 different coaches have now been told to apply it to him from....someone?

Like...if he is really good and should be playing as you claim, why would the team not use him or at the very least, trade him as a useful asset?

Just doesn't add up.

Kylington is the defense version of Sam Bennett. Lots of potential, but nothing to show for it in his opportunities. Numerous coaches have rolled through town and don't like something about him, so they either don't play him or keep him on a very short leash. I think the only reason they haven't moved him is because of the potential his skillset holds, and because of that, Treliving is probably holding a relatively high price.

Don't forget every team in the NHL had a chance to take him for free and passed.

No, they didn't. There is a cost associated to claiming a player off waivers. You have to commit a position to that player and then waive a player of your own to make roster limits. This whole narrative of a player that goes through waivers has no value is not accurate and lazy.

Well thanks for calling me lazy.

That's fair, but he also had a very reasonable contract amount and is the type of young player, that if a team saw the upside that some fans around here do, then I think he would be worth claiming.

I think there is the largest gap between fan v. professional evaluation of dmen. Moreso than forwards. I'm not saying that I can evaluate dmen better - but there are certain folks on this site with the experience to do so, so I trust their judgement.

Kylington's skating is sexy as hell, but I don't think he thinks the game at an NHL level and at the speed you need to. And that's the primary issue.

If implicit biases can affect the decision-making of criminal justice systems of states and countries, then they can affect the decision-making of NHL organizations and the whole NHL. I don’t find it difficult to imagine that Oliver Kylington would be discriminated against based on his skin colour.

Good grief.

So now the Flames organization/NHL is racist because they dont play a particular player.

Two black players, (defensemen no less) have signed 70+M dollar deals in the last 2 weeks...but there is a bias against them.

Makes sense eh?

Teams dont give a crap about a guys skin color, where they are from, or even how good a human they are in some cases....they just want to win.

Wow - this is a statement that comes from a place of privilege and ignorance.

I don't really know why Kylington isn't played - probably not due to racism. However, for you to make such a strong statement about no racism in hockey is something else. Especially when a coach on the Flames just recently got fired for racist remarks... Because 2 black star players signed a contract, that tells you the NHL has no racism?!?

I don't get the love fest for Kylington on here by some. He has had some very different coaches here and they have all came to the same conclusion with this guy. But somehow, some people sitting on their couch can assess the situation and come to the conclusion that there is some big bias against this guy that gets passed on from fired coach to fired coach. Something is going on in practice or behind the scenes with this guy that is making coaches hesitate to play him regularly.

i never said there isnt racism in hockey...anywhere.

I said, clearly, that if you are a good player, you will play and get a job. Period. As evidenced by two recent massive signings.

reading comprehension is your friend.

This is one of the dumbest things I have read here in a while, why does everything always have to end up here.

I don’t think it’s a love fest but Kylington has some skills that aren’t in abundance on the D corps. So if he could break through, it would be a huge plus.

I do think that there’s reasons that multiple coaches haven’t played him. Maybe his practice habits aren’t good - I think coaches put a lot of emphasis into “works hard in practice”.

Welcome to 2021, where leftist wokeism reigns supreme.

This is the darkest timeline.

This is my guess as well.

Most people dont understand how much emphasis coaches put on practice habits and execution there within. Its very literally how most determine who plays night in and night out nd why some guys seem to get a pass when struggling in games vs others who dont.

With 4 different bosses to impress enough to get their attention and with a skillset that all hockey guys want on their clubs, he has failed to do so. To the outsider it looks like some sort of "unfair" treatment but in reality its very much probable the guy isnt doing what is asked during practice.

Well, this definitely might have been a factor for Bill Peters

Let me just throw something out there that is going to be a bit of an out of left field consideration…. Could it be possible… nah I won’t even say it because it isn’t possible.

But…

Ok ok, I’m going to go off the grid here….. is it remotely feasible… by any account, that maybe Kylington just isn’t good enough at hockey.
