Remember though that the coaches are not letting him use his cutter. Which is his bread and butter pitch.

Lawrie is so, so so sick.

(realized this isn't really a fast-moving thread - I posted this after his 3-run bomb in the 2nd inning vs Baltimore.)

Bases loaded and no outs and the Jays somehow manage no runs. That killed them tonight, but they still had a chance to win and blew it.

Tallet for the save though? Hope he was the only guy left or something because that is some bad management otherwise.

There is a reason Don Wakamatsu was fired by the Mariners.

Ugh, really? Look at that team and their numbers offensively then think about what you just said.

The Jays Pen isn't the bees knees nowadays, anybody is a logical choice at this point.

Why not bring in Francisco in the bottom of the 10th to close it?

Fun club to watch 1 through 9, hope Carlos V is put in the pen when he's ready to return and Mcgowan gets a chance to start some games in sept!

Only an idiot coach will bring Brian Tallet into close against 3 righties. I could've managed the team better in that situation.

No talent Tallet strikes again. Well, we're just getting that much closer to a protected draft pick.

As Wilner tweeted last night:

@Wilnerness590:
If Janssen has an issue (and he talked to Poulis) and Frankie is unavailable. Tallet and Rommie are the only options left. #bluejays #Jays

@Wilnerness590:
Janssen wasn't able to continue tonight due to lat tightness. Don't know about Frankie yet. #bluejays #Jays

@Wilnerness590:
Anyone who thinks I'm actually defending the decision to bring in Tallet really needs to have his/her head examined. #bluejays #Jays

I'll defend it.

They're not trying to win anymore, they're experimenting.
Throw Tallet against 3 righties and see what happens. You've got to challenge your pitchers to see what you have. I suspect we'll see some different things from now til the end of the year. We'll see September callups close games. Why not?

Jays had to move 3 quality Relief Pitchers (Fraser... etc) to make the trades at the end of July. They knew last few months would be tough on the Relief Pitchers.

Personally I am not concerned, the Relief Pitchers & closer will be addressed in the offseason. I bet most of the Jays RP will be gone (Rauch, Camp, etc...).

Next season, the Jays will have plenty of good relievers from their own system. Perez, Litsch, Villaneuva, Janssen, and Carreno should be able to take 5 of the 7 spots. Maybe you sign a vet or two to round the pen out, or you maybe consider throwing Alvarez in as the closer while he works at developing his slider. Lots of different options out there.

Bullpen is the easiest aspect of your team to rebuild, just look at the Rays. I'm not worried about the Jays bullpen going forward, and I think the weakness of the bullpen has as much to do with the inconsistancy in the rotation as it does the actual talent of the bullpen. Get more stability there and you're bullpen would improve even with the talent they current have, its just way too overworked on a consistant basis. Not saying its good, or prefect just that I think the numbers are very misleading.

I would personally love to see McGowen as a closer as I think he has the stuff and the makeup for it. At worst I think he could be a great set up man, but I know doctors have apprantly told they Jays that from a health standpoint the inconsistancy of a reliever could actually put more stress on his arm and cause more injury, but recently Farrell had said he has not ruled the bullpen out for McGowen.

I've also heard that, and when I was listening to the Blue Jays' pre-game the other night, a couple of people thought it might be best for McGowan to continue as a starter. They noted concerns about being up and down warming up, and the short notice of being a closer and the strain it could place on his arm. I agree in that respect, for him I think it would be better to have a set schedule for him to be on, throwing every fifth day and the routines in between starts.
