I'm not outraged, just disappointed by their actions. I'm actually more outraged that people think it's acceptable. Obviously their point of view is not of an adult that may have childeren. If your daughter plays hockey and idolizes the team that's not the kind of example you would like our players to convey. Say what you want those pics are not flattering and thanks to their actions all their hard work put in to win this gold medal will always be mentioned secondly to their celebratory actions after. It's not the end of the world, it's just a shame.

Yes I am.
I am an unbelievably proud Canadian also.
And lastly I am a huge believer in fair play and sportsmanship. I was the guy at "The Heckle" that volunteered to play for the "Oilfans" team since they were outnumbered 2 to 1 (but CMpunk would have none of that .) These ladies reaching the pinnacle of their sport is tantamount to us flying a squadron of F-22's back to 1942, and dog fighting against a bunch of propellor planes with nothing more than machine guns. I find it hard to cheer for something with such a predictable outcome.

Shredding the flag is a major sign of disrespect though. They might as well have lit it on fire while yelling "down with Canada".
I don't see how doing what the Canadians did is harmful or in the same as desecrating another county's flag. I thought the gold maple leaf on our flag was pretty cool.
It seems to me this is basically as spontaneous a celebration as Montgomery's. In the heat of the moment I can't see any of the team members stopping and thinking what this would look like, they're celebrating a great win.
In the sober light of the next day I can see them showing some regret - mostly regret the photographers were still there - and they did and have apologized so I think this is a non story now.

Yeah well prudish Americans aren't high up on the list of revelers either. So being higher than them isn't hard.
Since when do we care what Americans think of us?
Class has nothing to do with it, where's that fotze post about wearing a monocle when I need it?

Dumb idea by the Canadian team and maybe a little disappointing, but it shouldn't be made into a bigger deal than it is. The IOC said it was disappointed and Hockey Canada issued its boilerplate apology. Good enough for me.

Do you know what misogynistic means?
Misogyny is hatred (or contempt) of women or girls.
Misogynist? Why yes I am!

I have heard from a source the when the men win gold, they are having a stripper stage complete with poles and and shower rolled out to centre ice.
You thought the girls threw a party? Seriously, when the men win gold, this whole country is gonna be drinking and smoking everywhere on Sunday!

Then you shouldn't. I will note for you however, that the USA has defeated Canada the last 2 times both teams squared off with a championship on the line.

I thought green text was "out" on this site.
Yes.... I hate women,
It was an equally ridiculous response to an equally ridiculous statement. I have praised the female athletes in numerous threads on this forum. I just think the womens hockey is too un balanced to be taken seriously.

Oh, good lord. What does this have to do with misogyny? It's just the fact that it's an awful, unwatchable event with only 2 competitors. The fact that it's played by women is incidental... Women's bobsleigh or luge is perfectly fine.

X2. Arguing that they shouldn't celebrate so hard is the pinnacle of misogyny. The only arguement here is whether or not for PR purposes they should have kept it in the dressing room. Even then I would suspect that the only people actually offended about it would fall under the 'prudish' category or people who would find it 'unlady-like' for women to be drinking beer and smoking cigars in public.
This was certainly not worthy of a 25 minute rant by Mr. Gay or not Gay, Mike Richards this morning.

Our entire national identity is based on a molson Canadian commercial. What did you expect was gonna happen.
I for one could care less, and if you don't think these girls worked their butts off to win, then you are stupid. It is not their fault Canada is the greatest hockey country in the world. It is also not their fault that Canadians celebrate with drinking and are proud of it.

Too unbalanced? You went on a huge rant about AAA midget hockey being better. That was pretty demeaning.

This seems like a fairly minor issue.
In my mind the main (only) factor is that they're wearing Canada jerseys and Olympic Gold Medals while partying. If the Flames had won the Stanley Cup, I don't think people would begrudge them a post-game on-ice celebration... if they get out of hand, their just tarnishing the reputation of the Calgary Flames.
These athletes are wearing the National colours and the highest athletic honour the world has. If for nothing other than optics sake, it was a bad idea. Technically a lot of girls across Canada look up to these women as role models. To see them smoking and drinking (which is totally their right to do) while wearing the jerseys and medals might damage their ability to be role models for young girls.
That said, who really cares? Sure they did something that in retrospect was a bit dumb, but I can't imagine it's a serious issue or merits any kind of action.
