Yup I was, and me and my brother won (sh*t that was a long time ago)

I have seen that geeky host on TV somewhere lately but I can't remeber where.

While watching the LA News last night , on I believe channel 5 - the anchor was non other than Leslie Miller from 2&7 back in the day.
Brought back some great memories of Sports @ 11 and all those hilarious Mr. Ski skits. Anyone remember the Haloween special on Sports @ 11 when Lounsborough (sp??) dressed up as Ed Whalen and Mike Toth was the Honky Tonk Man? It has to be one on the funniest things I've seen in my life

Did anyone ever go to Shaky's?
I mentioned it earlier in the thread. Do you know if it is still there?
Thin-thin crust pizza you could watch them make and watch old movies.

Remember AM 106? I forget their slogan, but I do remember the "Top 7 at 7" and the "Top 10 at 10". They had that yellow logo - a diamond I think?

Ah yes. The Top 10 and 10. I still have some old cassettes where I had recorded the top 10 and 10. Great stuff. And of course "SHOWWWW DOWWWWWN" where they had two songs face off. And the "Designated Hit" contest.

Oh my god, what a great thread. I don't come on for a few days and this is what I missed. Reading everyone's post all I had was a smile on my face the whole time.

I grew up in the Hood in Dover. Anyone from there? I used to hang out at the Red Rooster on 26th Ave S.E. Bought all my hockey cards there, and pumped quaters into the Super Mario bros machine. That game had quaters lined up like crazy back in the day.

I lived in Glenbrooke at one point too, and where Westhills is now, I used to ride my bike there and catch gophers and tadpoles. That was the edge of the city.

I used to fished the video games at Easy Street. Anyone know how to do that? Haha.. tie a quarter to a piece of thread and unlimited credits if you had skill. They even knew I was doing it there and they ended up hiring me. I worked at Easy Street.. whoo hoo! That place was wicked. Pretty fun place to work at for $4.20/hr. At least I made great tips. I co-ordinated birthdays. I probably did one your guys birthdays there if you are 5-10 years younger than me. Jim Peplinksi tipped me well once. I made a lot friends working there that I still hang out with.

I once won a Buckshot t-shirt and C.O.P. day passes. I sent in the funny joke of the day. I remember it vividly too. I ran home everyday for lunch from school after I had sent that letter. Then one day, that owl puppet thing (I can't remember his name), hands him a letter, and it looked like mine. I was so sure, because of where I put the stamp and the colors I used on the envelope. Then he announced my name and read my joke. "What happens when 2 shirt collars race? It ends up in a tie!" he read 2 other jokes, and everyone voted mine as the best!! Good times!

My sister and I also auditioned for Easy Street, but never made it. Might have been a good thing though, because I would have punched Kevin Frank. He was an idiot.

Well since we are on to bars, here were some of my old haunts.

Botany's (in the NE Radisson - horrible place)
Fox n' Firkin NE
CJs (of course)
3 Cheers
Yankee Doodles (the precusor to Shanks)
I went to those places too, that's hilarious! The first bar ever I got into underage was Club Splash. Anyone remember that? It was in Marlborough Mall.

Maybe the picture's deceiving, but $312,000 for your old house? You must be famous or something.

CKXL or "XL Radio". They had those yellow semi-circle stickers with the rainbows on them. Half the cars in town had those damn stickers. Put one of those on your car now and it's a gay pride statement.

Remember when Beaver was up on Heritage, overlooking Macleod? No word "Lumber" or nothing, just a big green sign with yellow writing that said "Beaver".

Haha! I didn't even look at the price. Its a very modest, middle-class house, hard to beleive is over $300,000!

Oddly enough - I just got an email with a bunch of this stuff!

Some new ones from the email:
- the Dinosaur Park opening up at the zoo, with the "scary" bridge!
- buying 1 cent candies at 7-11?
- Food City? Food for Less? Save on Foods?
- the '88 Olympics with mascots Heidi and Howdy
- Rollerland and Llyod's?
- when Ikea was that “weird European store”
- The theatre in Malborough Mall? Westbrook Mall?
- The TransCanada mall was actually a mall? Franklin?
- the A&W on 16th with the old fashioned window style service?

Oh jeezus the scary bridge. I tried to wipe it from my mind. I got separated from Mom and Pop Underoos on that thing when I was like 4 years old and I've still got issues.

It was made out of the siding from an abandoned shack and chains from an old swingset.

I grew up as a NW varsity rat and still live nearby. I remember:

*going downtown on the bus with my gran to pick up Bon Ton meat pies when they were on the corner of 8ave and 1street...before it was a pedestrian mall

*when they used to decorate the overhead power lines for the buses with wreaths and lights at Christmas time

*the downtown Bay used to have all kinds of neat motorized Christmas displays in the window cases

*the old Carling Brewery used to put up a pretty neat Nativity display on 9ave SE in Inglewood

*there used to be a neat used bookstore in Kensington where the Timothy's is - Hot Wax record was across the street....

*the Science Center was called the Planetarium!

*the old Stampede Rodeo Granstand was wooden and a death trap!!

*people would watch the fireworks from Scotsman Hill....wait a minute...we still do!!

*Brentwood Mall wasn't covered and you could drive in between the shops down the middle...weird

*The Ponderosa across from Churchill High was rumoured to serve kangaroo meat....

*we used to get the best pizza in town from The Matador in varsity....wait a minute....we still can!!

*i sucked back my first beer while watching the ladies undress at Franky and Johny's and Peepers at The North Centre Inn (AKA The Beakin!) on 16th and Centre. Ah yes - Freakin' at the Beakin!

*Boodlum and Tropicana were the head shops of choice for illicit smoking paraphenalia

*the reak of the feedlots near Ramsay (my grans neighborhood) was overwhelming

*Woodwards foodfloor in MarketMall had a cool candy store and there was a Yammy Taco stand by where the RadioShack still stands....who shops at RadioShack anyway?!?

So much more but what a cool thread!!!

edit - and those insane The Brick commercials narrated by Micheal Bell!!!

Anyone remember when the Concorde first landed in Calgary? I think it was '77 or '78.

I grew up in Rosedale, so I spent a lot of time at Abe's (candy/convenience store) and Bob's Books on 16th ave. I used to go to Bob's to trade my old "Sgt Rock" comics in for .......................more "Sgt Rock" comics. I used to try to sneak peeks at the girly mags when Bob wasn't looking.
