That last part is your addition and not based on fact.
The team lacks talent, the talent it does have is too young or too old and none at the elite level. They start losing, moral sucks. This isn't hard to figure out and it's not more of a puzzle than that.

I'll go with trying to get traded. Namely the pending UFA and maybe a couple others.
The getting the coach fired thing isn't happening, Conroy will likely go down with Huska as his coach.
