And Tampa was on a slump too and looked like ass. Kind of like Colorado until the last 10 minutes of the third.

And credit where due in regards to taking advantage of their easier matchups when they've had them (which has been rather frequently).
They can murder most bottom 10 teams without anything meaningful to play for.
But against legit teams that aren't handicapped in some way, I don't recall the last time they impressed.
They'd probably say the first two periods against Colorado while the Avs were asleep at the wheel. But when they got their legs it wasn't even close.

Unfortunately strength of schedule just doesn't mean too much this time of year. The Oilers games against LA and LV will be their toughest. Stars too.
Avs will be on cruise control.

Chill ^ nothing has changed.
That was the last game of the easy stretch. Now they get the Minnesotas, Colorados and Pittsburghs of the league.
Gonna need a lot of PPs to get those games to OT.

So are we saying we'd rather be 5-9 in OT/SO than 9-5? Just checking with the logic of the board here.

Flames and Oilers have gone to extra time the same 14 times. Oilers have gained 4 extra points.
Overtime and shootouts are the only thing keeping the Oilers even without shouting distance of Calgary.

People complain about loser points, but its really the winner points that skew the standings. 3 on 3 and shootout wins don't apply in the playoffs.

At first, I thought the Bruins were fatigued from playing the night before, but, it was the Nedeljokovic show in net for the Red Wings. He faced 50 shots and was the reason Detroit won. The Red Wings PK was perfect at 4/4.
The upset of the night had the Sabres beating the Hurricanes in the first game of a home/away series in the battle of the Anderson/Andersen goalies. Craig Anderson has been playing very well this season and looks like he will continue to play next season. Olofsson had 2 goals and scored the GWG with just under 8 minutes left in reg time.
The Predators smacked the Wild on the PP. All 3 of Nashville's 1st period goals were on the PP. Johansen gets the hat trick and Saros was a stud in net making 47 saves. The win puts the Predators 2 points up on the 9th place Knights.
The Leafs-Panthers game was simply wild. We saw 4 goalies play, 7 goals in the 2nd period, 84 shots combined, each team score a SHG, and each team score 3 PPGs. It was neat to see Matthews being the play maker as he had 3 assists. From the post game links, "Marner's two goals came 37 seconds apart, the shortest span between a power-play and a short-handed goal in NHL history. Toronto tied a franchise record last achieved in 1983-84 by scoring five or more goals for the sixth straight game. The Panthers came back from a four-goal deficit for the second consecutive game."
The Avs sweep the season series over the Penguins. Kuemper made 41 saves. Neither could score on the PP. MacKinnon with 2 goals and Burakovsky assisted on both of them. The Avs officially clinch a playoff spot and stay 2 points up on the Panthers for top spot overall.
Varlamov gave the Islanders a chance to win as he faced 40 shots while his team only fired 21 shots (10 shots total in the 1st and 2nd periods). The Stars won 3-2 in reg time and the win puts them in 8th place, 1 point up on the Knights and 1 point back of the Predators.

The Oilers are very good at beating the teams they should beat and for whatever reason own the Pacific Division. It's why I knew they would make the playoffs looking at their schedule weeks back. That said if you look at their schedule today 8 of their last 11 games are against playoff teams (the Knights are one point out but 8th spot changes nearly daily) so they will be tested in the coming weeks.

Oilers were outplayed the entire game, the Sharks missed glorious chance after glorious chance. Oilers had 2 shots in the third when SJ went on the PP and totally blew it allowing a short handed goal. Then SJ followed that up by missing about 5 more glorious chances.
Sure everyone would rather win SO and OT than lose them but if a large portion of your wins come that way it doesn't bode well for the playoffs.
