Flames won a lottery ticket with that one. Imagine what we'd look like if they hadn't?

Giordano is still a highly effective player and the numbers bear that out.

It's foolish to make a high-asset trade to bring back him and install him as #1. It's prudent to make a low-asset acquisition if possible to shore up the 3rd pair and gain leadership and experience. What else is there to say?

I personally don't think anything will happen with Giordano until the off-season. That's when I can see the Flames bringing him back, if it will happen at all. Gudbranson is having a good year - will he want a long term deal at higher money? Can he get it somewhere else? What about Zadorov - not having a great year, but not bad either. That one year deal makes me think he is looking somewhere else after this season (and he lives in Florida - maybe somewhere closer to home?).

I can see Giordano brought-in on a year-to-year term playing on the 3rd pairing with Valimaki (pushing Valimaki to the right, which he has experience playing in anyway). Still not sure it will really happen, however. Maybe someone else higher up the lineup also gets traded.

Unless the Flames go through a series of injuries, I don't think we will see Giordano brought back this season (if at all). In the off-season, depending on who stays and goes from the UFAs, or who this team ends up trading, and who else is wants to come here, then it may make sense to sign Giordano.

This is really the point -- a mentor for the prospect who not that long ago was our highest rated. Tanev could be that mentor too but he already has a student in Kylington. I'd love to see some tutelage taking place that brings both of those guys along.

Zadorov? Gone. Gudbranson? Maybe, but not if he wants a raise. That's $6 mln there. Re-sign Stone at $750K and give Giordano 2 years at 2.75. Done.

Please no, he hasn't looked very good in Seattle. at 38 he's done playing effective top minutes.

Jersey retirement? The rest I like but nah, Flames will run out if numbers if we loosen the requirements for the rafters club that much.

Based on what exactly?

As I've said to a few there are reasons not to bring him back (price, disruption, ice time for emerging left shooting dmen), but how he's currently performing isn't one of them.
