Gaudreau has never come across as a player that doesn't care to me. If anything I think he lets his frustrations get to him too much. That much has been really visible the last several years.
I'd put him at the polar opposite end of the spectrum from Dougie Hamilton when it comes to caring about the outcome of hockey games.
People used to claim Bouwmeester never cared too, yet he managed to become the NHLs ironman. I don't think "caring" is really something you can see based on emotion and reactions. The problem with Hamilton was critical thinking in tough situations, that is when he would start taking needless penalties.

I suppose they could make fighting an automatic game misconduct, but I'm not sure how they could possibly ban scrums since most start out as puck battles during the play.

I saw that one of the German soccer teams put cardboard cutouts of their fans in the seats of their stadium (they even put STH's in their regular seats). With multiple games per day in each arena, that would be tough for the NHL to do, but it would be cool to see a virtual C of Red vs a virtual White Out.
Korea's top soccer team put sex dolls in the crowd, msybevthe NHL could do that

I don’t doubt that Johnny cares about the outcome of games.
I do question whether he had the ability to up his play during playoff times, when the going gets much tougher, especially for smaller skill players.
It’s really why a player like Patrick Kane is considered a franchise player.
Maybe this playoff will be the time for Johnny to shine?

Johnny has shown the ability to raise his game in tournament play. His first year in the NCAA he was the Beanpot MVP and tossed his game throughout the college tournament. World juniors he scored a hat trick on team Canada in a huge game and lead the US in scoring. The World Cup he was one of the top 3 forwards on the exciting North America squad. He also scored that clutch goal against the Ducks in round 2 in 2015 with just seconds left.
I do think the fact Johnny has never been able to dominate a 7 game series and be a couple sister playoff performer lead to the questions he can’t step up when the games matter but he has shown in the past he can do it. He needs to figure out a way to be a factor for 4-7 consecutive games against the same team

The funniest thing to me about that 1986 playoff series is that it was three games and the Jets used four goaltenders (Hayward, Bouchard, Behrend, Berthiaume). A different one started each game.
If all players are tested what is the harm in a fight or two, or scrums...seriously if they are holding back the **** people have a point
I suppose it comes down to how often the players are being tested. You could test negative and contract the virus the next day. I think a lot of the older players with families are not nearly as willing to subject themselves to the virus as some of the younger players may be. If it's going to be a sticking point with the players the NHL would be wise not to take a hard stance.

Again he doesn't speak for the NHLPA. It's always easy to say things like that from afar but how would Burke feel if he was on the ice? I suppose they could conduct testing prior to all games to alleviate concerns but I'm not sure how practical that is.

They have apparently discussed the possibility of pumping in music during play to cover the language and give the empty arenas some energy. I think I'd prefer music to fake crowd noise.
If every team is going to play 2 exhibition games prior to official resumption of play, this would give them a chance to experiment with a few things before the games start to count for real, including arena noise and camera angles.

I demand cardboard cutouts in the stands. I’ve always wanted to see it. My friends used to tease me for watching wcw in the mid 90s before the NwO made it cool. They claimed there were cardboard cutout fans in the stands.
