Sockeyes is terrible. Kraken is so much better and much more memeable when they score.

I initially liked Sockeyes, but concede that it's probably more apropos for a baseball team.

Kraken is certainly different, but I wonder about its longevity.

Sure, but they played in New Orleans for just 4 seasons, and leaving New Orleans 41 years ago. Baffled why they lazily haven't changed the name to be more local, with sports branding being a much bigger deal the last 25 years or so.

I wondered the same about the Raptors. That name was IIRC a result of a fan vote in 1994, right after Jurassic Park came out. It's a silly name and has nothing to do with Toronto. But no one notices any more.

It's a good name for NOLA but definitely not Utah.

Washington Redskins - blatantly racist
Utah Jazz - great name, wrong state

If you go outside of Canada and tell people your college mascot was Dinos (or worse yet Dinosaurs when I went) and you will be met with howls of laughter. Worse yet, my high school alma mater were the Redmen. Embarrassing.

The more I think about Kraken, the less I like it.

Sockeyes, Totems, Emeralds are all better IMO.

Count me in as one who loves it. There are some seriously boring team names in all leagues and Kraken would not be one of them. Sure, it's not traditional. That's fine. Sometimes, tradition is lame.
