Carpenter 14 pts (9g 5a) in 36 games

Just go back to the expansion draft thread and see how dismal the picks looked.

Best draft rules I also have a point...they had better players to pick from than any expansion team ever

I still didn't expect them to be this good just saying its hard to compare them to other expansion teams like they had a similar scenario...they didn't

It would be impressive but I don't really get the historical talk. I mean their goalie won the Stanley cup last season...this isn't your grand mother's expansion team comprised of 4th liners and waiver wire pickups.
well if you look at the STL run, there were 2 divisions in the NHL. The expansion division and the other one with all the OG6 teams.

didn't matter which expansion team made it, history was going to be made. Thats why buddy said it shouldnt count. Maybe if they made a series out the playing the Canadiens, then it'd be more legit? I don't know, Just think even with the benefit of gracious expansion draft rules, the Knights really had no business doing the thing they're doing. But here we are and I think modern media is going to frenzy the crap out of this run if they make it to the WCF.
As far as I know, no expansion team won a WS in baseball their inagural season, no NBA team, no NFL team. It's a big deal....I think. For sport.

Yeah I don't care about St. Louis that is also totally different

Vegas had a MASSIVE advantage over any modern day expansion team though so its kinda a tough comparison for me. Like I said though impressive but their draft rules were so unprecedented its tough to compare.

And they are a LONG way from being cup champs...

LOVE seeing the Kings getting the #### beat out of them. This beatdown is possibly worth the expansion draft and creating a power house in the division haha.

Clearly this team missed Engelland this year, he’s a guy no one really appreciated enough as a leader of this team. Congrats to him

Not appreciated by whom?
I kind of felt like everyone grew to love Engelland as his contract went on.

It's rather sad that this is my favorite Flames moment in since 2004

Interestingly on the topic of the Flames missing Engelland, it's interesting that all those Flames fans who have convinced themselves that Brian Burke is meddling have conveniently forgotten that we just let him walk.

the VGK Engelland is nothing like the one we had in Calgary. last game, I saw him rush the puck up and go as deep as the LA goal line more times than he probably ever did in 3 years with the Flames. I don't remember him being that kind of player with the Pens either. where the hell did those wheels come from? somehow a plodding, shot blocking, puck icing stay at home defenseman was utterly transformed.

whether that's a product of the team system, or a commitment to work on speed/decision making or both, it's remarkable and might be something similar that awakened the potential of his cast-off teammates as well. but let's not pretend like we would have gotten that Engelland if he stayed here. if anything he would have looked even slower and more useless and we'd be calling for the old slingshot into the sun alongside Brouwer.

Even if the Knights somehow win the Stanley Cup this year I will remain sceptical that they can carry this season over into the next. I think a lot of what is driving Vegas is what happened at the start of the season: they already had an "us v. the world" attitude going in, but then the hotel shooting and rallying of the entire city ignited an absolute powder-keg on the ice.

Don't get me wrong, they are a good team. I just don't believe they can be this good again for a while.

They have won three one goal games against a wildcard team...might be a bit early to plan the parade

They mentioned during the game that Vegas regularly has hundreds (800) of fans show up to their practices through out the season and thought it made them practice harder.

It would be an incredible accomplishment, but I think that is why you see most people also saying that it is most unlikely to happen.

Engelland actually had a few rushes in Calgary - he had OK straight ahead speed and an OK shot - if he saw a big open lane he'd go with it. I'd say he did it once every two or three games. But not much happened because they were often lone wolf. But I actually preferred it because his transition passes were so bad.

Don't forget that in Pittsburgh he sometimes played as a winger.

Somebody texted into Boomer and Warrener yesterday.

The Knights have 3 playoff wins in the last 5 days.

Calgary has 5 playoff wins since 2009.

(sigh)

Go Knights Go!

The Hockey News recently put out an article ranking the fan bases across the league in terms of misery over the last several years. They had Flames' fans in the middle of the pack.

I would say we should be near the top of the list in terms of pain, misery and disappointment.
