This picks up on the "next captain" thread from a few weeks back, and I disagree. A player does not need a letter to be a team leader, and I think in Tkachuk's case the responsibilities of the captaincy might actually prove to be a hindrance to some of the things that he does very well.
He is an awesome player, and easily one of the best Flames forwards for a long time into the future—with or without a letter on his jersey.

Disappointed that it took a homecoming game to get that 3rd line going. They were terrific, but can’t help feel if they had given us more efforts like this in January and February, we probably would be comfortably in a playoff position.

Theo Fleury said (and I agree) that he wasn't suited to be captain.
Phaneuf was an awful choice as captain for the Leafs, even if you believed his play would merit it.
Remember Corson as Oilers' captain? Laughable.

How was that game any more important than the Florida game? Or the Vegas game? Or the Colorado game? 2 points is 2 points, and it's even more crucial to win against teams you are trying to chase down for a playoff spot...

Do we really need to be this pedantic? So at the time that the last game was played, it would be impossible to dictate the outcome of previously completed games, and it became the most important game to win. And losing it would begin to make a large hill closer to insurmountable.

There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with enjoying a win. NOTHING.
This is why I cheer for a team. You cheer louder when they win. Why fricken follow a team if you are going to be so down on them all the time and trying to make everyone miserable? Stop following them and being miserable if that is what you get.
If the Flames miss the playoffs, will I be disappointed? DEFINITELY. It looks like I will end up being disappointed. But until then, I prefer to hope and cheer. Heck, even if the Flames are mathematically out, and win their last game or two anyway, I will still be cheering those games. Because... why not?
This season is hopefully just a hiccup. You have to be a really pessimistic person to look at this roster and think that the Flames have a failed rebuild. It is a hiccup. Changes will be coming. Players will mature and improve. Things happen. There is never guarantees every year. That's what makes it even more interesting.

Also, the Buffalo fans were extremely classy, perhaps as a result of accepting their fate as a bottom feeding team. I was politely pulled aside and complimented on 'our team', and asked "Where did all you Flames fans come from? This is incredible!".
So, good to step into a festive environment for a game, which felt like a nice vacation from the negativity around the Flames lately. Hope they can keep it going in the next stretch!

I *thought* I saw a lot of red in the crowd and wondered. Nice!!
