Nothing wrong with Gillies starting in the AHL next year too. Goalies can take time to develop and nothing happening right now means we have to move anyone.

Would love to see this Smith / Rittich tandem next year too if things continue well with Gillies and Parsons splitting starts in Stockton.
I agree. I actually thought that was their plan. Having Smith for 2 seasons. Then by the time Gillies is ready they can bring him to the NHL. Not part of a plan was having Riitich as a backup this season. I am glad Flames were forced to try him as a backup this season and Riitich forced the Flames to keep him this season and moved Eddie Lack. No reason to move Gillies because Smith and Riitich are doing great right now.

You know what else is crazy, GG responded by putting the 1st line out after the panthers scored their first goal, and gets rewarded.

I was ready to see him roll out the 4th line like he always does

So are you happy he didn't meet your expectations or that he did meet your expectations? Lol

There was like 200 people at the game, and that man was wearing the best looking jersey in the crowd.

Gillies isn't getting moved no matter how well Rittich does IMO.

Next year Rittich will back up Smith in the NHL if he keeps playing this well. Gillies and Parsons will share the AHL net unless there are injuries.

Hopefully Rittich continues on the trajectory he's on and takes the NHL net the following season when Smith is 37 and going UFA. By then Gillies or Parsons should be ready to be the NHL back up.

Whatever happen, I sure don't see the Flames trading away any of Rittich, Gillies or Parsons anytime soon.

A few takeaways from the game:

1) Gaudreau slapper. How often does he score with a slap shot?

2) Rittich.

3) After Florida scored, GG responded and put out Gaudreau line and they immediately scored. Gee, who knew...but credit where credit is due, great decision.

I checked all his highlights from my previous 6 Gaudreau videos.

Tonight was his first legitimate windup slapshot goal.

He had this hilarious one last year:

Then this own goal deflection off a slapper the year before:

Yup. I thought it was really odd when he scored tonight.

It's also worth nothing, against Tampa and Florida, all the goals the Flames scored were scored by the players Flames drafted.

But Smith is 35 with another year left on his deal.

If Rittich continues on his way it wouldn't be a terrible thing to have Gillies pushing him in a young tandem with Parsons wanting in.
Exactly. Was a move by Treliving.
Absolutely not a mistake.

Nah.
I think those with seats close were a probably intimidated?

(Hah Cali must be nice. My tickets for Flames next month in United Center are about 100 rows up and still cost major $$$$$)

If Burke can get two Sisters on the same team in the same draft, anything is possible.

I know at one point it was thought to be ok to call them the sisters. But it isn’t really anymore

But we don’t want that type of thing on this site
So just don’t do it. It ain’t funny. It’s dumb and sexist
