Even the colour guy is strangely biased against wideman.
I rewound the shift where he fanned on the puck and he said Wideman has a couple of turnovers and fanned on the shot.
That's patently false. Wideman had no turnovers. He had the fanned shot and other than that it was a good shift. No idea why he'd make that up. Even the fanned shot, we don't know for sure it was his fault. Bad ice at the end of a period, maybe the puck hit a divot in the ice or skipped and that's why he missed it. Regardless, it wasn't the best or safest play, but one little mistake that results in no pressure or chances by the opposition isn't a huge deals.

CP on Wideman right now:
[Lisa has stolen the rotisserie pig from Homer's barbeque]
Marge: Bart! No!
Bart: [Bart has done nothing] What?
Marge: Sorry, force of habit. Lisa! No!

The same shift he fanned on the shot, he got the puck along the boards in our zone and then did a no look back pass behind our net to a waiting Ranger.

Except Wideman is Bart because he's usually the one that screwed up.

Wideman definitely doesn't get it though like he used to. He should wrist more, or dump to the corner. But really, it's only blocks near the blue line that are concerning. Blocks that rattle around near the goal are fine - they can lead to goals.
|
Completely agree. And unfortunately, far too many of Wideman's shots this year are being blocked by the high guy and end up sending the play the other way.
As to confirmation bias - it's an easy criticism, and often valid. But the reason that every GT is full of Wideman criticisms is simple: he keeps creating material.

Any true fan doesn't go into a game hoping one of their teams players will be terrible. I can't deny there are many people expecting him to be terrible but to be honest, his on ice play pretty much speaks for itself. He has had the occassional good game this season, but the bad far outweighs the good by a significant margin.

Yeah, he definitely had one clear turnover where he pass it behind our net right to a waiting Ranger. Not that I'm piling on Wideman, just that a poster said he definitively had none.

He had a bad game against NJ. Lost his man on the wraparound goal (though both he and Elliott were firmly of the opinion the puck was going the other way). Took a penalty. So he's up for criticism there. But overall, I feel like he makes the same amount of mistakes as any other number 4 D. Mistakes happen. I guarantee if Engelland is elevated (which I don't mind) he will make the same number.

What the hell is with those toques that they were wearing for the outdoor practice? Calgary spelt with the flaming C as the G in Calgary? Lol

No he didn't. It went to a Flames player who won he board battle against a ranger. It wasn't a great play but Brodie reversed to Wideman despite Wideman having a ranger player right there. Him shooting it up the boards was his only choice. Brodie left him out to dry.

OK. Kevin definitely threw it blindly behind his own net to a waiting Ranger.
