Exactly.
Or make it, and then lose in a hurry in playoffs. But if Bennett could be any part of making it in and advancing past first round, the last thing management will care about is his ELC

I guess I should have used green text.

We burned a year for Bill Arnold for gods sake.

I'd bring him in for 3/4. If we're in and he's awesome his tenth game is game 7 of round 1. I'll take that.

Arnold was a completely different situation as his second contract won't be a huge raise

If you think he improves the team now.. you play him. You can worry about the 10 game thing if you get to that point. I'm pretty confident the GM/President and Owners would all love the chance to worry about the 10 game thing by making the playoffs. Right now you've got to ice your best team to get there. If Bennett is part of that.. then you have to play him. If he's not, then he can go the AHL.

One thing is for certain. Sam would inject a ton of energy into the lineup at a time when the team kind of needs it. And that ball of energy is a very talented individual.

The thing is, mistakes this time of year are magnified. What is the risk of putting a rookie who hasn't played much hockey into the lineup at such a critical time?

I say ADK first.

More often than not, when rookies are put in the line-up they are carried by the energy of their excitement and play very well for a short time. Look at Monahan's first ten games, Baertschi's call up, Josh Jooris at the start of the season, etc. More often than not it is over the corse of the season that rookie's show their immaturity and need to be sheltered. With Bennett's intelligence and ability, I don't see how putting him in for Granlund/Jooris is much of a risk and has the potential to be very positive.

Put me in the camp that says Mr. Bennett makes the big leap now. The Addy alternative makes little sense. No brainer, boys!

Bennett could really inject some energy and secondary scoring to the team. Pretty sure he's better at FO's than Granlund.

Just to be clear -> the games only count against his ELC if he plays, right? Not press-box?

I'm thinking about Drew Shore's situation...he came up for a while but just played one game and sat four or five in the press-box so as not to void his non-waiver status.

If that's the case, I think Flames management will make sure this whole situation is strictly a win-win. They can manage his games such that he only plays 9 games between regular season and round one. (If we make the playoffs). If we make the second round I think the magic is in full-effect and you just roll with it. YES -> making the 2nd round for the first time since 2004 is well worth one-year for one player. Revenue-wise, experience-wise, fanbase-wise etc etc etc.

Yes. He can only play 9 games. Sitting in the press box does nothing.

The 9 games count towards both regular and playoff games.

John Shannon ‏@JSportsnet 55s55 seconds ago
And just like that plans change. Last night Bennett was going to Edmonton. Now it sounds like he's joining the AHL team to practice.

It is John Shannon... about 8 minutes before that he said he was going to Edmonton. So I would probably take his reports with a grain of salt at this point.
