So did Setoguchi at one point, I wouldn't trade Byron for him. Also, Stewart's the guy that pouted and wouldn't sit with his team in the lockerroom in Buffalo. Why would we want that negative personality here infecting our close-knit band of brothers?

If you'd gone with something more like:
To Buffalo:
Reinhart + Stajan
To Calgary:
Chris Stewart + non-top 4 big d-man (that can skate, preferably)
That's much more approachable. Take Sven and negative value players like Setoguchi and Bollig out of the equation.
|
I thought about that as well before I wrote it in and when you come to think about Sven, maybe he will flourish with another team. He did have his moments a couple of seasons ago when he was brought up to the big leagues. Seto's might also rejuvenate on the right team. Calgary's got too many players right now wanting to stay in. I'm not sure why Treveling signed more veterans than is needed in the offseason. Sure, we all get the point of creating a competitive atmosphere, but it can also backfire on you or make a mockery out of veterans who would otherwise stick with the club based on experience. You also don't want to create a revolving door where if the rookie over-achieves one year, then the following year is demoted or the team tries to trade up, which inevitably don't work in their favour since the sophomore looks worse because the bar has been raised far too high in his first season.
Anyway, my whole point about this is really to find out how interested Buffalo is with trying to get Reinhart out of Calgary to join his brother in the Buffalo organization. Sven is a bit of a far fetched dangler, but with the Sabres trending up right now, they just might put their first round pick up for sale and see what they can get. Player commodity is the same as in any business - if the demand is there, the price goes up.

Well no one is hitting right now. Outside Bouma,Colborne,Bollig and Byron. No one steps ups for ####. I hope one day Monahan realizes his size but the jury is still out. The effort is there but this is the West after all. If you can't play and be physical goodbye you need to be sent out east. Some one needs to get traded, maybe not for Stewart . Trelivimg in his first year needs to set precedent. Send someone packing either for a guy who will sacrifice his body or for picks.

march 7 2012 in his emergency recall showed glimpse and his first couple of weeks in 2013 did.
You sign the vets in numbers in a 2nd year of a rebuild so the pressure is off the rooks so the can just play and develop without the media/ outside pressure.

Friedman's update:
http://www.nicholsonhockey.com/worth...sabres-stewart
Quote:
On a recent panel discussion with which Friedman was involved regarding Chris Stewart and the Calgary Flames having kicked tires on him earlier in the season:
“I actually said I think the price for Calgary was less than it was for Boston. That’s kind of the impression I got.
“I just think the thing about Chris Stewart, and Healy said it very well on the show, was when you’ve got your own coach ripping you because you’re soft – I mean, I don’t think that really helps. The thing about Chris Stewart is he’s a really talented guy. He can make a difference as a player, but he doesn’t do it enough.
“And I look at Calgary this year, and one of the reasons you guys are a really improved team is you’ve got a lot of guys that really play for each other. And I think the biggest question about a guy like Stewart is if you bring him in there and he’s not what you want him to be, does that have an effect on what you’re starting to build. And I can’t say for sure that Calgary feels that way because I’ve never asked, but I know there are other teams out there who feel that, and it’s more than one.
“I think Boston would be willing to take a chance. Although like I said, the price was higher for them, No. 1. And No. 2, I think he does carry about a big 4ish cap hit, so the Bruins didn’t have enough ability to carry that earlier in the year.
“But I do know there are teams out there that are scared away from Stewart because he’s never been what he can be. I think teams, when you have good chemistry, you don’t necessarily want to bring that into your organization.”

Stewart would be a nice addition for the Treliving roster. He sort of combines the size of Engelland and Bollig with the general indifference of a Raymond, resulting in the perfect Treliving player.

Stewart has passed through a few organizations now and the red flags now loom larger than the potential. I wouldn't have an issue with the Flames trading for him but only if the price was low like a Reinhart and 3rd round pick. I just don't think Stewart is worth anything more than that and would rather draft a player in the 2nd round than see this guy become another Rene Bourque for the Flames.

Setoguchi's numbers (as a soon to be 28 year old hockey player) over his past 3 and a half seasons
GP - 204
Goals - 43
Assists - 47
Points - 90
Stewart's numbers (as a soon to be 28 year old hockey player)
GP - 231
Goals - 53
Assists - 51
Points - 104
Before this year, in their previous 3 seasons Seto was only 2 points behind him, but Stewart has pulled away with a strong campaign this season.

No, me neither. I would hold our assets for now until a better opportunity comes up.
We have nothing but time right now.

Adding Stewart would be stupid. He is an 'almost never has been' he squandered his talent due to laziness and lack of intelligence.
He is the diametrically opposed flames player. The absolute opposite of what this team wants.

^^ Kind of like how a sweater vest makes the torso hot and itchy while leaving the arms bare and cold. Stewart is a jack of all trades.

Am I the only one who thinks this is a high price?
Let's keep our 1st-3rd round picks for once and let our scouts help rebuild this team.
Would be nice to find a Bjorkstrand-esque player in the mid rounds again.
We don't need more experiments.

Well Buffalo isn't going to give him up for nothing and my proposal represented my opinion on the most I would let go for him. He is somewhat of a proven 15-20 goal scorer that's still a few years away from 30 so I would think a 3rd round pick isn't a big overpayment.

A guy who's looking like he'll probably never stick in the NHL and a 3rd rounder is a high price? You're expecting the Sabres to give him away for a 4th rounder?
Regardless, Stewart is Rene Bourque part deux. Stay away.

Nick Baptiste is a player from Buffalo I'd like to see us take a run at. Gritty RW natural goal scorer. Was hoping we would have drafted him but maybe there's some kind of deal we could make to swap prospects for him.

At least we know we won't be giving up a 2nd round pick to land him like Jay Feaster would have.
