First of all, its clear the silhouette in our logo is not a copy of the silhouette in the designs that are trademarked. Second, the protected wares and services with those designs do not include anything to do with discussion boards--- so on that level, using the tower is not against the law.

There's more to it than that however, you may face a type of passing off allegation, where the owners of the Calgary Tower say having that silhouette in the logo leads others to believe we are associated with the tower, or they endorse us, etc.

So maybe its not worthwhile to go down that path anyway.

There is a bigger problem with this and some of the other logos though, and that is, calling the board "The Unofficial Calgary Flames Community" or anything with the words "Calgary Flames" in it as a logo could get some push-back from the Flames. If it hasn't been done already, someone (ie. Bingo) should ask the Flames if they take issue with a slogan which uses the word "Calgary Flames" in the title. I know it says "Unofficial" to show we're not endorsed or affiliated, so could be a type of fair-use issue, but I think it would be best to seek permission before adopting it.

Thanks a lot for looking that up. I researched the daylights out of this (more for the Monahan silhouette, as the Tower being an issue didn't occur to me).

As for the words, that can be changed in 5 minutes. I'm not jazzed about what's on there now. "Your 24/7 Hockey Source" would be pretty cool there.

Great work by all, and a fun poll, but I hope this vote is going to have as much impact on the decision to select the new CP logo as fan voting has on the Hobey Baker. A new logo is going to be very important for CP moving forward, especially if Bingo has aspirations of bigger things with the site. The logo will identify his brand and should be representative of the product. While the shields are great, and would look awesome on a hockey puck or team jersey, but they come up short in defining what CP is about. They also really lose their impact when scaled down to the size where they will most likely be used, with a lot of the content becoming unreadable or disappearing all together. If the goal is to come up with something that will work as a brand, is reflective of the service, and moves away from reliance on the Flames brand, then the candidates are limited and the selections more obvious. Bingo and company have some excellent options to choose from and I think they will make the right one to achieve the long term goals of the site and their business model.

I think fan voting is great, but I agree... it's Bingo's site and he should pick the logo (or logos) that most resonate with him. It's his site, and he should be able to be the happiest with it more than anyone else.

I voted B as I liked the text bubble and rink idea.

I agree with others, it would be nice to have eliminating rounds to bring in the top 4 choices of the current ones after some of our choices are eliminated. so that we can band as a group to choose the best. Bingo would of course choose of the finalists.

A rotating banner and logo would be cool too. Just saying.

I don't think that's necessary.

Bingo has a decent idea which ones are the most popular now. There's no need for him to do a run off vote and then for CP to chose a winner. Remember, Bingo only wanted our input on what we like. Ultimately, it's his choice which one becomes the new logo.
