I think baertschi+ gets a deal done for floridas #2-3 pick. If it's #1 the optics change.
Florida has new owners, and a "Luongo window" to do something. They WILL be shopping this pick.

That would be stellar.

Sven + 2nd or Johnny + 2nd could do it
Btw. To move 2 spots sometimes it took a 2nd rounder
I think Gio is worth Panther's 1st and 2nd rounders

Don't get me wrong, I think the world of all three of those players, I just don't think Florida needs short term pieces right now, although that Luongo argument is interesting.
All I'm saying is that I don't think LA would trade Doughty for Gio, and I think that Florida would be in a bit of a similar place, although obviously a guy like Ekblad isn't proven. You're probably right though, that deal probably does get done.
Just curious here, would you take some other teams struggling star offensive prospect and a 2nd for our 4th?

There is no consensus, teams don't agree.
Some teams likely have Draisaitl in their top 3 from the buzz he's been getting. Some teams likely don't have him in their top 5 (us if that luncheon is to be believed).
I think it's a situation like Barkov from last year. He was #4 on many lists so he appeared to be a "consensus" #4 guy behind Jones, MacKinnon, and Drouin for a lot of people. In reality teams had him top two.
Never underestimate big centres going high. Happens every year. Sounds like Draisaitl has some people thinking of a big #1 centre with good puck protection. And that is what EDM needs to help RNH long term and complete their offensive lineup. Heck BUF could take him #1, crazier stuff has happened (Fleury going #1, Dipietro going #1).
From the rumours so far it sounds like it would be beneficial to the Flames if Draisaitl goes in the top 3 because then we could nab one of our top three rated guys at #4.

With the Luongo window, I think the Panthers would entertain Gio for their first. I wouldn't do it though from the Flames perspective.

It's ok. Johnny Hockey scored his first goal today. That's all that matters.

My 10:
1. Panthers
2. Sabres
3. Isles (...)
4. Sabres
5. Oilers
6. Oilers
7. Sabres
8. Isles (...)
9. Hurricanes
10. Maple Leafs
EDIT: Curious to see when I get the Flames:
11. Sabres
12. Panthers
13. Panthers
14. Hurricanes
15. Sabres
16. Jets
17. Maple Leafs
18. Sabres
19. Predators
20. Panthers
21. Sabres
22. Sabres
23. Oilers
24. Sabres
25. Panthers
26. FLAMES
Based on my simulator, Buffalo (10) or the Panthers (5) will most likely win it. Sorry Coilers (3).
It really bothers me that mine had the Isles with 2 while we had one.
27. Sabres
Was hoping for one more Flames.

This draft is going to be very interesting. Different teams have different needs, and at different points in their rebuilds. On top of this, teams have different scouts and favor different prospects. There also doesn't seem to be a consensus thus far amongst the majority of scouting services at the moment. Everyone has their personal opinions.
I still see this:
Tier 1:
Reinhart - BPA
Ekblad - Very close 2nd
Tier 2:
Bennett - to me, he is just a bit lower. I can understand why people rank him higher, and I would be excited if he was available at 4th (if the Flames retain 4th or don't win the lottery).
Tier 3:
Dal Colle - Think he is going to be a very, very prolific scorer that will compliment any center on the top line, or who may even be a very good center himself.
Draisaitl - just a slight notch below Dal Colle
Tier 4: I think this is the biggest drop. I like a lot of prospects in this tier, and I think quite a number of them will be 1st line upsides - even dominating. They have more warts and issues, or just don't have as high of ceilings.
Ritchie - for me is the top-end of this tier. Just has that complete package - size, speed, shot, vision, aggressiveness, skill.
Nylander - right behind Ritchie for me now. Might just be the most purely-skilled offensive talent in the draft.
Ehlers - just a hair behind Nylander.
I posted this thought in the post-game thread today. I kept watching Gaudreau tonight, and he just oozes hockey sense. Just makes some unreal plays in-tight. I really like Monahan, but I imagine Gaudreau paired with someone like Reinhart who makes those same high-level plays. They would be a thrill to watch together for years, and Reinhart is an ace on defence already to boot. On the PP you can move Reinhart to the RW and have Gaudreau, Monahan and Reinhart all out there setting one another up. Just made me drool.
I will be very happy to add anyone from the top 5 - Draisaitl included. That is the worst-case scenario for me if the Flames get bumped down to 5th. I will be happy with Ritchie only if Draisaitl is the last of the top-end available. I would still prefer Draisaitl over Ritchie at that point, but I can understand the preference and what bringing a guy like Ritchie into the pool would mean long-term, and how he may indeed prove that he can be become just as important of a piece as someone in the top 3.
Just feels 'safe' now with the Flames selecting no lower than 5th.
Also, in response to people speculating on the cost of moving up - really tough to say how much it costs. Burke has come out and said that in trades, he doesn't mind over-paying as long as he gets the player he really likes.

Doughty is worth much more than Gio
It would take 1st 2nd and A prospect plus...
Depends on the prospect
Sven is doing better now and he will improve but he is butter soft

That's a much better result for the Flames than someone behind us winning it and bumping us down to #5.

Here is every "move up" draft deal made since 1993 involving a top-5 pick...
1993 : Hartford traded with San Jose to move up from 6 to 2 for the additional cost of picks 45 & 58.
1998 : Nashville traded with San Jose to move up one spot. The Preds gave up picks 3 & 29 and received picks 2 & 85.
1999 got a little crazy. Burke didn't move Vancouver's own third overall pick because he needed that for Henrik, so he first needed to swing a deal to get another top-5 pick. Vancouver traded Brian McCabe and either their 2000 or 2001 1st round pick to Chicago for pick 4. Once he had the additional asset, he swung two more deals to move from 4 to 1, then from 1 to 2.
Vancouver traded with Tampa Bay to move from 4 to 1 for the additional cost of picks 75 & 88. Then, Atlanta traded their #2 pick and their 2000 3rd round pick for the #1 pick.
2002 : Columbus traded with Florida to move from 3 to 1. The only thing Florida got in return was the option to swap picks with Columbus in the 2003 Draft (Florida ended up with the first overall pick in 2003 and did not exercise their option).
2003 : Pittsburgh traded picks 3 & 55 plus Mikael Samuelsson to Florida for picks 1 & 73. This is the only top-5 "move up" trade to involve an established roster player as part of the deal.
2004 : Carolina traded picks 8 and 59 to Columbus for pick 4.
2008 : Toronto traded pick 7 plus 2 conditional picks (either a late 2nd in 2008 and a 3rd in 2009, or an early 3rd in 2008 and a second in 2009) to the Islanders for pick 5.
