That pace would get us 75 pts in an 82 game season. 1 point more than the 29th place Oilers last year.

You might get an all right prospect, but no one will be trading a high end prospect for a rental, I'm sorry but everyone here needs to get their heads out of their asses and wake up in the real world.

well that's your opinion. Not sure where all the vitriol is coming from, but maybe you ease off the red bull...
we either keep Iggy and watch him tail off into a shadow of himself and get zero for him, or we trade him to a contender, give him a shot at winning the Cup and get a good prospect and/or picks in return.
I am in the former camp, but certainly will not tell those in the latter to "pull their heads out of their asses"....

..and how's that working?
It would be one thing if Iginla was starting to take on a secondary role on this team, but that just isn't happening. The expectation, it seems, from players, coaches, management, fans and media is that the expectation is for him to still be the "star" of this team.
Is that fair to iginla? No, it isn't...but it's reality.
In order for this team to move forward, if history is any indication, Iginla needs to move on.
The best option (in a perfect world), IMO, is for him to leave, and then come back. This gives the Flames time to move forward and develop a new identity (with different faces), so that if/when Iginla comes back, he truly takes on a secondary role.

After sleeping on this, I've got some perspective. This was one bad game. Bounce back tomorrow Flames.

The team gets beat badly by contenders - its not even close. Not acceptable for a team trying to sell itself as "win now". The close losses or wins against the middle to lower end group of teams just obscures the realities here.

Was thinking the same thing myself!

Too many fans equate rebuilding the team with trading Jarome.
|
I'll go the other way. Trading Iginla isn't a rebuild, it's just trading a worse guy for a better guy (if the deal is done correctly). If Iggy keeps playing like this, trading him away would improve the team, not blow it up. Same goes for Kipper if he comes back and struggles, same goes for Bouwmeester if he reverts back to his form of last year.
Bouwmeester would have played more than 30 minutes if Smith and Babchuk didn't get stuck in their zone for 2 minutes and Hartley hadn't held him back in the 3rd (only 6 minutes) because the game was lost.

The time to trade him for all the tea in China was 3, maybe 4 years ago.
It's officially time to rebuild. This season. And we simply wont get as much as we hope for, or need.

Actually, this is not quite true. Iginla had already been drafted in the first round by the Stars when we aquired him in the Niewendyk deal. The deal was Niewendyk for Corey Millen and Jarome Iginla.

And the Flames wanted Todd Harvey.

Where in my post did I say anything about what you are writing? All I alluded to was that hes worth more than a third rounder. Not sure what your rant has to do with anything I wrote.

I've been trying to remember when I've seen the Flames be outplayed as badly as they were in this game and I'm coming up blank. They almost literally looked like a peewee team out there. Not a battle was won. The Flames have been in many games over the years where the other team scored more goals than were scored in this one, but I don't remember them looking as horrible as they did in this one. That was a stinker of epic proportions.

Umm..Boston last year? Heck I was in Boston in 2010 and they laid a way worse egg in that 6-0 than last night, and they came back a whooped Washington the next day.
Every team has these games, especially the flames.

What I meant was that Nieuwendyk got us a first round pick (Iginla) and a scrub.
I'm trying to illustrate that if we were to get another 1st for Iginla today, it would have followed the trend somewhat, not that we drafted him...

Given that we're below Edmonton in the standings, I'm still unclear whether we are rebuilding or scorching the Earth.
