how is this consistent with PuckLuck saying speeding is accepted in the left lane?
both lanes are for going the speed limit. if the car in the right hand lane ahead of you is going slower, then by all means pass (at the posted rate) in the left lane and then return to the right lane ahead of the slow moving vehicle.
so we agree. when will you acknowledge the left lane is not for speeding, but is intended for passing (at the posted rate)

What they are for vs. what people actually do with them are two completely different things.
Does anyone have a good reason to say that high-beam flashing is legal though? The law says you must dim your high beams within a certain range of another car. Why wouldn't this omit flashing them? In my experience, the law is absolute, so telling a judge "I just turned them on for a second" is IMO not a very convincing argument to get a ticket reduced. You still turned them on within range of another car.

Are you people completely illiterate?
You, and the guy you quoted...?
I'll make this simple...
THEY DO NOT INSTALL HIGH BEAM HEADLIGHTS IN VEHICLES "SO YOU CAN FLASH OTHER DRIVERS"...FULL STOP
THEY DO HOWEVER, PROVIDE A MOMENTARY CONTACT SWITCH (WHICH WILL ACTIVATE THE HIGH BEAMS FOR AS LONG AS IT IS PHYSICALLY HELD BY THE DRIVER)...FULL STOP
THE FUNCTION (RAISON D'ETRE) OF THIS SWITCH`IS STATED AS BEING: FOR USE AS A "WARNING DEVICE" TO OTHER DRIVERS...FULL STOP
Shall I go and pull the owners manual out of my glove box to provide you with a unequivocal citation on this point???

Take a break man. No need to get personal.
I imagine owners manuals vary between cars. It sure doesn't say it in mine.

Pay particular attention around the 0:15 - 1:00 mark for a demonstration of the use of the day/night tab.
If you are still in doubt please refer to the following webpage for further instruction.
http://www.ehow.com/how_7172875_adju...o-mirrors.html
On that web page you will note Step 4: "Look at the dimmer tab on the bottom of the mirror that should only be used at night. During the day, push the tab all the way back. At night, pull the tab forward only if a car with bright headlights is behind you."
So no need to teach your mirrors how to stop reflecting, just teach yourself how to use them.

None of it, but if smoeone wants to speed in the left lane then that's their perogative, and it's up to the police to catch them, not slowpokes in the left lane "policing" the roads themselves.

Sometimes these driving rules threads scare me. The horn is a far safer method for letting someone in front of you know they are doing something unsafe/annoying. I find it very distracting when lights are flashed from a car traveling behind me. Drivers are already distracted enough, they do not need flash spots and less dilated pupils to hinder them. The only time that I can think of that I flash my lights at someone is to let them know that they have forgotten to turn on their lights. I think for asking someone to move over a horn works just as well. If your intent it truly to get someone's attention, I think the horn is just as effective. If your intent is to be annoying in return, as some sort of payback for what you see as annoying behavior then you are doing a good job at being annoying, you are also being part of a larger problem with drivers on the road today.
The poster who tried to imply that there is possibly an age (experience) relationship between the two sides of this argument is stereotyping, and also totally correct.

As I read some other posts I realized that I also use the light flash to warn drivers of something. When it is a matter requiring immediate attention such as a deer crossing the road. If you need to flash someone to warn them of something requiring immediate action and is a matter of safety it can be an affective tool.

The problem I find with the horn is that it's very hard to know where it's coming from, who it's meant for, what it's supposed to mean. At least with quickly flashing the brights, you are more likely to get the attention of the person you wish to communicate something to.

Bing bing bing.
If someone is being dangerous and you feel like you should notify police then do it, but notifying police that someone is going 120 in a 110 zone would be asinine and a waste of police time.

slow traffic stay right does not mean, speeders use the left lane. its means EVERYONE GO THE SPEED LIMIT REGARDLESS OF YOUR LANE BUT IF FOR SOME REASON YOU CANT, PLEASE STAY IN THE RIGHT SO YOU DONT CAUSE CONGESTION AND CONFUSION WITH THE OTHER CARS WHO ARE GOING THE POSTED LIMIT.
Its also good TIPS to move over so the as$hat who is driving 140 can get as far away from you as possible. i am not endorsing nor have i ever, playing traffic police and blocking traffic, jsut because you are going the speed limit and want to prove your point.
you could be right and dead.
where does it say anything about its ok to speed as long as you arent in the right lane?

Actually the sign says "Keep right except to pass" But nice try.
Its pretty amazing to me the amount of people who don't understand simple rules of the road...

I agree that a horn's origin is sometimes hard to pinpoint. However, I find that anytime I hear a horn I think about what I am doing and whether it could in anyway be directed towards me. The desired affect has been reached.

I fear that it is in fact you that do not understand the intent of the law. Slower traffic keep right, and keep right except to pass, are in fact directed towards people going below the speed limit. The intent of those signs is not meant to make it easier for people to speed.

On a high way it's usually pretty easy to pin point a horn. It's almost always coming from behind you.

once again, i invite anyone to show me where i suggested anything about being lane police and not moving out of the way of all you awesome drivers who are speeding in the left lane.
in fact, i have consistently agreed that the safe thing to do is to move to the right and let the jagoff's pass.

please cite the rule you are referring to.
also, explain how this - "keep right, except to pass" - has anything with "speeding is ok in the left lane".
is that not two different issues all together?
so, for i dont know how many times now, i agree! if you are not capable of doing the speed limit, you should be in the right hand lane until you can exit the roadway. and to clarify, you should stay in the right hand lane and keep the left lane clear so that people who want to pass you, can do so safely.
do you agree that the left lane is for doing the speed limit while passing those slower moving cars that are in the right lane?

Let me just say that the left/right thing does not bother me nearly as much in the city as it does on the highway. I generally expect city driving to be a giant cluster ****, that way when it (occasionally) isn't, it's a pleasant surprise.
1) The right lane on the highway is for driving, except to pass.
2) The left lane is for passing.
3) Law enforcement is for catching and deterring speeders. Highway drivers driving the speed limit in the left lane on a highway are not.
Thank you and good night.
