Look, I know Chucky burned us by forcing his way out, but I don't think the emotions from that event should factor into evaluating him as a hockey player.
I don't get worked up about players leaving - rosters turn over constantly, and I have been around a very long time. I do not hold a grudge against Tkachuk (or Gaudreau). I simply don't think Tkachuk is one of the top 10 players in the NHL. I think he's selfish, and he is not a great skater. He has a very high hockey IQ, and he has several tools in his tool bag. He is a 1st line winger.

But if I had the choice between Thompson, Matthews or Tkachuk, Tkachuk is my (distant) 3rd choice.

If you feel differently, cool. But don't try to dismiss it as bias, when others have different opinions than you. And if there is any bias here, which is more likely: that's you're biased, or that everyone else is?

Agree to disagree for me regarding Chucky. He's an elite player and his numbers and metrics support that. Video also shows the impact of him leaving the Flames in the areas he plays his best (right in front of the net in the dirty areas).

Everyone thought Gaudreau carried the line/team

Turned out Tkachuk was just as important. His game is not as pretty but he is great at what he does.

Nobody carried that line last year - they fit together so well because they each brought very different things. Chucky has had great seasons without those 2 with Backlund and Frolik and Johnny has had great seasons with Monny and whoever else played with them.

Oh nice, now you're trying to pretend that everyone agrees with you and I'm on an island by myself on this one. But that doesn't appear to be the case.

Crosby is on a 100 point pace this year.

As he was last year.

Over his last two years, his points/60 of 3.7 each year is his best in 10 years.

That is subtle.
Scoring is up league-wide this year (and has been increasing steadily over a number of years), while Crosby's production has stayed at the same level as previous years. That's what I meant by subtle decline. He's still elite, he's still a top 20 player. But I wouldn't put him in the top 10 anymore.

If his points/60 is so high, there must be a reason why his coach doesn't give him more ice time.

If we were talking about who you would sign to sign to your team for the next several years, obviously Crosby is on the back 9, and any sane person would take Tkachuk.

But when talking about who are the top 10 players in the league, that is a this-year discussion. And this year, I would much rather have Crosby on my team. Especially in the playoffs.

I would say Tkachuk probably is in the mix but guys like Crosby and Thompson play the most important position C which trumps the production part.

You win with stars and depth down the middle not wingers and we know that very well here in Calgary.

This video is spot on. Good for Chucky. In tight and near the crease, he is a beast. His ability to protect the puck when in the O zone was a large part of the success. In reality, both him and Gaudreau are line drivers.

Chucky with the GWG today to put the Panthers ahead of PIT and NYI for the top WC spot.

5th overall in points. 5th overall in points per game. 5th overall in 5v5 points. 11pts in his last 4 games down the stretch. Carrying Florida into the playoffs with 32 points more than the next guy on the team.

Yeah he's probably in the 30th percentile in the league in terms of skating. Fair enough. But he's also in the 90th percentile in terms of overall points, dirty area points, rebounds, etc.

I think Florida is okay with that.

Injured hand. Anyone with a slight hand injury can tell you - ain't no hockey happening after that. Narratives are easier and more fun, though.

It was important for Sutter to change him back to centre after years and re-learn that, struggle until the end of the season, sign a cheap contract on another team, be placed back where he's comfortable and then flourish again.

Not sure why Sutter was so intent on making Calle play centre. His FO percentage was never that great and most of his success with the Preds was on the wing.

Valimaki with the GWG and two assists in 22:47 TOI tonight as the Coyotes defeat Chicago 4–2.

Juuso is up to 31 points in 66 games this season.

Probably the best waiver pickup this year for any team in the NHL.

Funny enough, second-best is probably Connor Ingram, who also went to AZ.

Solid pickups. Juuso has been unbelievable of late.
