Also, they said that if Marleau re-signs on that 2 year deal with the Sharks, that Thornton will sign a minute later. Thornton wants to stay in San Jose as well and it's a no brainer if Marleau re-signs. Thornton/Marleau have been deciding together on what to do (Thornton is waiting for Marleau).

And you missed it.

Loubardias spit-balling on Fan960. Could Trevor Daley be a #5D? Points out ties to Gulutzan.

Elliott to Flyers?
I guess there aren't too many options left, and now he's at a big discount.

Well I sure as hell hope he relaxes his Lefty-Righty pairing doctrine for Trevor if he does come in. They stuck him on the left in Chicago and he struggled, was put back on the right in Pittsburgh and did great.

Bringing in a 40 year old Shane Doan would be gross. Would also be crappy for Gulutzan as he would be put in the uncomfortable position of having to scratch the guy over the course of the season and he's already probably staring at the possibility of scratching Brouwer if his play doesn't improve in season 2.

Useless 5v5 player that would provide us with what Versteeg already brings on the PP? I don't see a fit.

No? It's his job to take a spot.
If he deserves to be here they will make room for him.

I literally brought up Gagner last season and said he would put up 40-50 pts. Got relentlessly lambasted for it, its funny how peoples tunes change lol

Gagner is a terrible fit for the Flames. They already have what he brings, and the last thing they need is to get even softer.

His 5 v 5 stats are actually pretty good. I think he is criminally underrated in some circles and overrated in others. The reality is he is a serviceable top 9 guy who is a PP specialist. He is an average skater and a good puck distributor.

Hamonic is a pretty tough customer and we can add toughness in a #5 Defenseman as well. I don think that you can too much skill. Difference of philosophy

Not if they load up with veterans who require waivers and the team doesn't want to lose their investment in that contract. If the team is really about giving the kids a chance, but want to push them, bring in veteran players on PTOs. That's true competition.

The way I see the Flames we currently have 8 top 9 forwards in Monahan, Johnny, Backlund, Frolik, Tkachuk, Bennett, Ferland and Versteeg. We are also almost assured to be playing Brouwer and Stajan on opening night. That leaves 2 open spots between Lazar, Hathaway, Hamilton, Jankowski and Foo. While this isn't the most intimidating forward lineup, it's nice to see very few passengers.
It'd be nice to pick up a scoring UFA winger tomorrow but the top choices all seem to have other biases: Marleau (California), Williams (East Coast), Iginla (not Calgary), Jagr (probably Eastern Conference), or they have massive question marks. I'm actually comfortable with Calgary sitting out on the UFA rush this year. I think a #5 defenceman is still in the works but those aren't necessarily the guys you chase on July 1st.

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE Sharp on the Flames and I've always wanted him there. I think he'd be a great fit on a 1-2 year deal at about 1.5-2 mil.
